A new contender to watch out for?

Created by: nobody
Team: 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2018
Published: May 13, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Hurricanes will have plenty of cap space this offseason, are on the trend up, and need a 1C. John Tavares would be the idea fit. $12.5M is a tad pricy, but if you’re Carolina, you gotta do what you gotta do.

If St. Louis elects to go with Husso in net next year, trading Allen to a team in need of a fresh start in goaltending is smart. The Hurricane give back Darling and a 2nd under the assumption Hutton wouldn’t return in order to sign somewhere else in FA. To sweeten the pot, Carolina absorbs the last year of Bouwmeester’s contract.

Plekanec and Lehtonen are simple, one year depth signings that help the team in the long run/if injuries begin to be troubling.

As for expansion, the plan would be to go 7-3-1

Forwards: Tavares, Aho, Terravainen, Staal (NMC), Rask, Lindholm, Zykov
Defencemen: Hanafin, Slavin, Pesce
Goaltending: Allen

This basically makes the UFA fights to Skinner and Faulk as the only valuable options. Carolina would then move Faulk for assets before expansion, hoping by that time Bean is a reliable top 4 defenceman to take Faulk’s spot.

Don't protect Martinook. I mean, he's a good depth guy, but you absolutely protect Zykov over him.

Don't protect Z. Svech would be eligable for selection by expansion. You protect Andrei Svechnikov if he signs a contract allowing him to play in the NHL. Once he signs this contract he is eligable for selection in an expansion draft.

You have to have over two years of professional experience to be eligible for expansion. Therefore, Andrei Svechnikov will not be eligible.

Thats for the AHL. Once you sign a contract that allows you to play in the NHL you are eligable for selection in an expansion draft.

Then explain why Panarin wasn’t eligible?

As for the team Mr. Booth, I'm impressed. I am a firm believer that Carolina will be on the same level as the other eastern conference powerhouses within a year or two. Along with Skinner and Faulk, I see Gauthier and Fleury are also unprotected, but that's what happens with an expansion draft haha.

You clearly haven't, because the third point on the article I posted (which is on the official NHL site mind you) states: "All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits)". Booth gave you a perfect example in Panarin...

That was the Vegas expansion draft. The Seattle rules are different.

Yeah I guess there’s nothing you can do about Fleury and Gauthier. As for Skinner he will be a UFA, and I would figure Faulk is going to be traded before the expansion.

Given the list I'd say Seattle picks Fleury, but there's still a few years before this assumption can be made. Faulk would have to be dealt before the 2019 trade deadline, that is if you want full value for him, which I'm thinking wouldn't be a problem for the Canes by that point with Bean on the rise.

Considering Bettman has also said they'll be the same, I'm thinking there might be a good chance they'll be the same

Bettman "The Thrashers are here to stay" "There is no link between concussions and brain damage" "Calgary will get moved if they do't get a new building" How can you trust a word that man says. NHL reps have said the rules will be different and until the draft takes pllace that's what I'm gonna go with
