Philly will never do such a trade, even if Weber was still a top-10D in the league. Don't get me wrong, he's still a legit 1D, but Coots is too important to Philly. They have nobody else to replace him with, at that level.

not a chance with the season courtierer had and with webers contract. Unless cash was held back maybe philly would be interested but montreal would need to add still otherwise they pass easy.

I don't think contract is the real problem here. Even if Weber was 50% retained and UFA in 4 instead, it would still be a no. Trading Coots would leave a gaping black hole at C and would make Philly an automatic non-playoff team. A Weber for Coots trade or any variation would make zero sense.

You have to come up with something far greater than this to have ANYBODY pick up Weber, and that contract.

Would have more luck getting Giroux for Weber.

Contract wouldn’t be an issue, his cap hit will always be 7.8 but his actual salary drops down to $3 million in a year. If you retained 50% of his contract you would basically be trading Weber to a team that willl have to pay him $1.5 million, that is a steal, even for a 34 year old slow dman.

Only internal cap teams (ex: Carolina) care about the "actual" salary paid, because they don't make much revenue. For playoff teams, that figure is irrelevant. AAV cap hit is the only thing that matters. We could be paying him a dollar fifty for the entire season, but if his cap hit is still 8M, a team must make cap space for the player. So I really don't see the point of bringing that up.
