Pacioretty's actual value to the Blues

Created by: Sicarius
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 23, 2018
Published: Jan. 23, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He doesn't really hold value for the Blues because he's a LW with 1 year left on his contract.

Fabbri, Schwartz, Steen, Sobotka, Sanford, are all LW's.

Why would the Blues give up 1 single asset for something they have the most depth in? It makes 0 sense.

Fabbri out for the season. Sanford out til feb/March. Schwartz has been out since early december. That’s why everyone is trading him to blues.

When it's not patch, it's Hoffman or Kane so there's definately a need for a top 6 forward. IMO, a winger is a winger, left or right.

Fine then don't trade for him then! That isn't going to stop people from making AGM's the way they want......This is a fantasy site at the end of the day. People who are not qualified to make these real decisions IRL are being given a chance to do what they think is right. What'd you expect?

People need to start looking at these AGM's as trade offers , not done deals. Nothing more. Its an offer, you can choose to accept, decline or continue negotiating to something you like better.

If you think GM's in the NHL start off by making an offer that is really close to full value off the bat, you are wrong. Negotiating 101: Aim high and negotiate down from there.

The whole process of negotiating is completely lost on this site so people go straight for the full value with an extra cherry on top.

then leave Patches alone and sod off ?

the thing you forget is making a deal with STL is the least profitable when ANA has the most to gain by Adding Patchs.
(their Center and D depth is renowned but as far as Wingers they have Perry and Silverberg.)

for example ANA moving 1/5 point per game developmental centers being held down by depth like
Getzlaf,Kessler,Henrique,Vermette,Raekell , ext like a Kossila or Terry who are ready now but ANA isnt ready for them to play.
would go a long way towards solidifying a deal without NHL prospects
Terry from NCAA and Larsson from AHL will likely do it with a couple conditional picks

ANA lands patches and they get 3 legit 30 goal scorers in their top 6 with some of the leagues best centers
which until this point Patches became 4th in NHL goal scoring the last 7 years without any good centers .

Because they are on the edge of the top 10 in goals for and would like to be securely within the top 10.
They also want to keep pace with the competition.
St Louis has about 3 players on pace for 20 goals. Their competition has 4 - 6.

This isn't something people have just pulled out of the air. There's a legitimate need for more goal scoring in St Louis.

Since 2012 -13
Steen, Sobotka, Fabbri, Sanford and Schwartz = 263 goals in 991 games
Pacioretty = 171 goals in 407 games = 0,42g/gp.... 0,42goals x 991 games = 416 goals
Not one guy you named is near Pacioretty's production. 1 1/2 season for a Elite goal scoring machine will cost a lot and if STL want to finally succed in playoff they need more then the players you named

More goal scoring for the Blues shouldn't mean paying anything close to what most Habs fans are expecting for Patches.

Everyone knows Patches is a good player. There are several factors for the Blues not trading for Patches. He's 29 and has 1 year left on his contract. To give up assets like Fabbri, Thomas, Dunn, or Kyrou, would pigeon hole Army into signing Patches long term. It's paying a premium on acquiring him and then paying him on his last big contract.

The Blues shouldn't try to keep up with every other team this year. The Blues are a playoff team and nothing more. Landing Patches isn't a move that makes them instantly cup contenders.

Since he's so good the Habs should go ahead and extend his contract smile
