you had me until the draisaitl trade. preposterous. Edmonton runs away.
You are probably looking at pietrangelo and a prospect for draisaitl (lack of term for pietrangelo)
The offer was Petro, Thompson, Sobotka and a 2nd for Draisatl, a 1st, and the rights to Nurse.
Pietrangelo is arguably one of the top 5 defensemen in the league. Many would argue that Draisatl, Nurse and a 1st is a bad return for a player of his quality.
I absolutely understand that Edmonton may see Draisatl as a franchise player to build around, and therefore isn't interested in moving him.
I understand the value placed on Nurse, who is a very special player, too.
But you're not going to get a better offer than that. Pietrangelo is the best player in this deal, by a wide margin, and he's signed through 2020.
There's no reason to believe you couldn't extend him beyond that, if your GM was so inclined.
Although, this inclination towards giving out max term contracts is increasingly less common, as it is a foolish way to manage assets.
Yes, I'm stuck on the idea of the Blues trading for Draisatl, and I covet Nurse, too, though I realize that isn't a likely thing to happen.
Regardless, I see Edmonton and St. Louis as ideal potential partners, because so many of our needs line up.
I think there's a good chance there will be a hockey trade made between our clubs, even if the players involved aren't the ones we would choose to send.
Pietrangelo, A.
Sobotka, V.
Thompson, T.
