Description
The Calgary Flames probably have one of the most bleak futures in the NHL. They swung for the fences and came up short with their moves a few seasons back, but they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They can't really rebuild because they are locked into some pretty bad long-term contracts, but they have some intriguing prospects and access to the 9th overall pick in this years draft. The Flames should look at competing this year to avoid their pick falling to the Canadiens and trade a few expiring contracts for long-term picks and young players who can take bigger roles on a pretty weak Calgary Roster.

  1. Kämpf, David
  2. Liljegren, Timothy [RFA Rights]
  3. Robertson, Nicholas [RFA Rights]
  4. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Sharangovich can fetch a monster package for a competing team looking for cheap depth. Sell him early and get a bag for him, looking for young depth and guys you can take the risk on. Any competing team makes sense here but I think the Leafs would love a guy like Sharangovich.
TOR
  1. Sharangovich, Yegor ($1,550,000 retained)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
The Leafs realistically are fine parting ways with both Lily and Robertson, especially if they are doing some major surgery on the team. With Marner MOST LIKELY gone, I think that will free up some cap space to focus on getting more depth in defence, and Sharagovich will work as a nice middle-6 goal-scoring piece. Getting rid of Kampf too would be a must in my books, way too much money for a good defensive fourth-liner you barely use.

CGY
  1. Girard, Samuel
  2. 2024 5th round pick (SEA)
  3. 2025 4th round pick (COL)
  4. 2026 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Mangiapane most likely won't come back to the flames next year, and I would shocked if he did. A guy with a 30-goal upside and really solid 2-way play could fit perfectly on the Avs, and free up space on the lineup for Matthew Coronato and Connor Zary. Get some solid assets back as well for retention and taking on Samuel Girard's last 3 years.
COL
  1. Mangiapane, Andrew ($2,900,000 retained)

    Future Considerations
    4.
    CGY
    1. Frost, Morgan
    Additional Details:
The final trade I have the Flames making is acquiring Morgan Frost from the Flyers. Despite Frost's quality play over the last 2 seasons, it seems he is not a long-term fit for them, especially in Trotz's system. I think the Flames could be willing to take a risk on him as a younger second-line center option, and ask him to play a more important role behind Kadri. They can also look at other young center options like Marco Rossi or Cole Perfetti.
    PHI
    1. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
    2. 2025 4th round pick (COL)

IMO that's a gross overpay for Mangiapane.

I'm a big fan of his game, but Girard, and a 1st is too much for him.

Is Vladar really worth nothing? Flames should’ve moved him earlier

Best to just stick to your Canadiens there bud. You have no clue or idea when it comes to the Flames, their Future, their Needs and the Type of Players we want, which definitely doesn’t include any of the Players you proposed Trading for or Signing via Free Agency. The Grade is definitely an F on this one
