Description
Hard to put an accurate price on UPL. With Levi, Peterka, Quinn and Byram needing new deals after 24-25, Its important Buffalo pay attention to that when signing and or trading.

Savoie or ostlund I think are ready to play for the big club. Best get them going sooner than later, with the need for small contracts in the lineup with the raises that are due soon.
The Ehlers addition would be huge only if there was an agreement for extension in place.
Otherwise I say gun for hometown Kaner.

I'm just a neutral hockey fan here, having my hand at an objective look at Buffalo.

Also, I forgot about jokiharju, what should they do with him?

Trades
1.
WPG
  1. Kulich, Jiri
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
A promising young prospect who has shown good production in the ahl, is likely ready for alot of nhl time. The sabres have a logjam of forward prospects, and Jets have cap decisions to make coming up.
2.
BUF
  1. Smith, Reilly
  2. 2026 3rd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Buffalo happy to shed skinners deal 2 years early. Smith will be gone after this season when Levi, JJ, Quinn and Byram need new deals. Also think this would only happen if Buffalo added a big scoring winger like ehlers. He'll need a new deal after the year too but shedding skinner helps immensely.
PIT
  1. Skinner, Jeff ($4,000,000 retained)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Pittsburgh gets more offensive production for the same cost as Smith for an extra 2 years while they attempt to stay competitive.

If I'm Dubas I probably consider that.

Seems like it'd make sense for both sides. Pitt takes on no more cap, and Buffalo gets to drop 5M at the end of the year to help sign youngsters to new deals. Sid can make producers out of anyone it seems so, skinner would be a fit on his wing I think

Winnipeg most likely considers that.

I don't think that's the kind of return WPG is looking for with Ehlers. They don't really have cap issues either and if that's the best return out there, I would rather they keep Ehlers as an own-rental if they can't re-sign him.

I think both moves are solid, so kudos on that. I think girgs comes in at a little less cause of a down year but otherwise about right. UPL contract is probably right too.

But I think you're way too bullish on Savoie immediately stepping in to be the 3C. He's probably getting a full year in Rochester and internally, they think he's going to be a winger.

I like Ehlers, and I think he'd be a good fit. But 3C is a bigger priority at this stage.
