Description
Ok, so I don't trust management to fully rebuild anymore, unfortunately. We're probably picking around 5th next draft, so I'm hoping for Cayden Lindstrom , Eiserman or Demidov. After that, I think our best chance at becoming legit contenders is to go the Kings' way, with solid depth, size and talent, without a true superstar. Few steps to get there:

1. Trade Monahan at the 2024 deadline. He should bring back a conditional pick, based on health.

2. Trade Montembeault this year as well. He shouldn't be a priority when considering the future of the team.

3. Trade Matheson at the 2024 draft. Value has never been higher, and LD prospects are coming. Trading him for a forward would be smart.

4. Sort the logjam at D by trading Harris and potentially Xhekaj and Barron.

5. Sign a couple vets next summer to surround the young core.

6. 2024-25 will be somewhat tough again, another top-10 pick is probable.

7. In 2025-26, while other teams in the Atlantic stagnate, we start moving.

Additional Details:
Conditions on the trade based on Monahan's health. For example, if he plays more than X% of games, pick becomes a 1st.

Doesn't have to be the Jets, I think multiple teams will be interested at the TDL.

      Additional Details:
Trade happens at the 2024 draft. I think the value is comparable for a F-D swap, 2nd is added to compensate for the extra contract year.

McCann is a solid add for goalscoring in Habs' top-6, while Matheson can be a legit 1st pair D for Seattle.

Mtl aren’t trading Montembeault unless they get a substantial return. Barron won’t be trade for a 27 years old third line centerman. That doesn’t make Montreal better and that clearly not the way Los Angeles built their team.

Not sure this would be an LA copy, LA had Kopitar and Doughty, Habs do not have any Vets anywhere close to those 2 guys.
If you move Matheson + a pick I'd hope for a guy slightly younger, someone like but not specifically Tippett or Mittelstadt
I like the Barron trade, he's believed to be the odd man out on the right side because Mailloux and Reinbacher are expected to be better but, I'd be patient wait a year or two and get a better sense of what the two guys are.
Joblow called him a 3rd line center but, Roy is an absolute monster, worth giving up a pick plus prospect of Barron's level
I agree with the timeline for the most part, I expect the Habs to start really competing in 2025
