I don't think you understand how buyouts work. If you're committed to the rebuild, buying out a player is strictly a negative, because it doubles the duration of their (albeit reduced) cap hit. Now instead of having Vlasics contract off your books in 3 years when the playoff window opens again, you'll be paying him for 6 years.
