Description
Don't think many people know the direction this team is going in, with how the east playoffs are going to be then I think building for a year or two more is the way they're going. Yzerman has said if he trades for someone then they would want them to be younger and long term assets. That being said Edvinsson won't be called up for any more than 9 games this season, defense core needs editing, same for forward core, and Chiarot could also be moved out this offseason with a sweetener. So here is some stuff what I think that Detroit could look at, and what the roster could look like.
Trades
1.
DET
  1. 2023 7th round pick (NYR)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Most likely Talbot gets traded away to a new team, they could use Ned the Senators for the next couple seasons. He's 27 and needs a new destination, this is where I think it is. Won't be like what they sent for him. Depends on really how much Yzerman could sell him to the Sens. Late 4th and late 7th, could be a 5th instead of a 4th.
OTT
  1. Nedeljkovic, Alex
Additional Details:
Not much needed to be said here, Wings mistreated Ned in my opinion. They also seem to like Helberg unfortunately, so no spot for him in NHL. Expiring UFA and will likely leave, get what you can get.
2.
DET
  1. Fabbro, Dante
  2. 2023 5th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
From the Predators point, having just added Cal Foote, they could be favoring him over Fabbro. They would also receive a decent young bottom pairing defensemen in Gustav Lindstrom. They also get a second back, could be more.
NSH
  1. Lindström, Gustav
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
Wings traded Hronek and need a replacement for him. Fabbro could be that guy for Detroit that could fit well. Unfortunately you lose a bottom pairing guy that's 24. Believe this trade helps both sides.
3.
DET
  1. 2023 4th round pick (CAR)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Return is a spare second of the Hurricanes and their 4th this year. Wings traded their 4th this year and could look to get one in this draft.
CAR
  1. Vrána, Jakub ($2,625,000 retained)
Additional Details:
This would be the last spot for the Wings to retain salary, and similar to the Ned case with mistreating him. Elliot Freedman also stated that him coming up is "100% a showcase" which probably was. Retaining salary is the move that adds a fourth, don't think the Hurricanes would be willing to trade their first. Other teams like Toronto and Edmonton could be in on him.
4.
DET
  1. Yamamoto, Kailer
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2024 6th round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Either Yamamoto or Foegle will leave in this trade, leaning towards Yamamoto here. Looking to trade second round pick and could be option for Detroit, don't think they're going to be willing to trade their firsts in 2024 or 2025. Could see prospect coming in too.
EDM
  1. Perron, David
  2. Zadina, Filip
Additional Details:
Could be a separate trade, the Wings aren't going to push for playoffs with Perron here and Zadina needs a change of scenery. Ken Holland has an interest that's known of for Zadina, Perron I think Oilers fans would like and could legit be interested in.
5.
DET
  1. 2024 5th round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Not big return and could be useful for someone that can come into the lineup and play well on a bottom pairing.
FLA
  1. Hägg, Robert
Additional Details:
Nothing special here, see him leaving in spot for someone else.
6.
DET
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. 2025 5th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
NTC but I think he'll be the odd man out in Toronto and useful to the Wings bottom pairing. The Leafs have no leverage though because they have to move a defensemen.
TOR
  1. 2023 7th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Any team I would say has the leverage in a trade with Toronto like this. But still Leafs could move him in another deal elsewhere but I think could be good for the bottom pairing on the right side.

If Engvall gives the leafs a 3rd, a RHD in Holl in this league returns you at min a 5th

Trading Hronek never made sense to me. Maybe he figured this was a career year that wouldn't be replicated? I don't know, makes no sense to me, unless the picks he got are flipped fora RHD.

I think it's pretty obvious the direction we're going. He signed Larkin quickly after slow playing it all season then has started to dismantle everything he had to put the rebuild down the road. You don't trade pieces like Hronek if you're looking to compete now. We're going to see him move everything not nailed down now and it's back to signing vets to two year deals to plug holes as we use all those picks. We punted on a great draft class to try to compete and now we're gonna pay for it.
