Description
Point of this team: Get your ducks in line for the 2022-23 season while getting better this upcoming season (keeping salaries down).

Trades:

Appleton for a pick and an exempt prospect (pre expansion draft): Lockwood is looking to be a future bottom six winger who brings speed and grit. He's also exempt from the expansion draft. Add in a 3rd and it could work (Don't think WPG wants to give up Appleton and then have to expose someone else with value).

Schmidt for DeBrusk (post expansion draft): This is a great opportunity for both players to get a fresh start. This is a one for one, but there might be a need to add on both sides to make it work cap wise. I'd think Schmidt wouldn't have BOS on his no trade list.

Foegele for a pick and prospect (post expansion draft): It seems like he's on his way out in Carolina as he's in a similar situation that Stecher had here in VAN (CAR wants to sign him to a deal lower than his qualifying offer). Lind is a player that doesn't seem to be a fit in VAN and a conditional 2nd packaged could do the trick. Let me know Canes fans.

Signings:

VAN needs to bring in as many low costs bets as they can. With the team in Abbotsford it's the perfect situation for the hockey ops to have an eye on them. As long as the money is under $1.1M it can get buried in the AHL so these are practically no risks. I have Dzingel, McCabe, Merrill, Pysyk, and Hinostroza all as examples of these kinds of players.

Buyouts:

Benning was pretty talkative on Buyouts, but the only one I see happening is Virtanen (for obvious reasons).

Canes accept in a heartbeat if Lind is interested in a 2-way deal.

It would come down to whether OT not boston likes the way schmidt projects for the remainder of his contract. They probably don’t love it, but who knows. I really wanted them to go after him last season.

Yeah I do feel in reflection that it may look like an overpayment, but I do see it as the type of move that gets done to acquire him.

There's no incentive for Winnipeg to do it. This way they lose Appleton and say Stanley and replace them with a 3rd and an AHL'er. The Jets are better off just letting Seattle take Appleton and lose one player instead of doing Vancouver a favour and losing two players.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I look at the Bruins defense, especially if they are losing one to Seattle, and think that they could look at him. I don't know what DeBrusk's value is, but it seems like there's a separation coming down the road and he fits the bill cap wise.
