Description
Let me list all of the ways this is actually the worst case scenario:

1. Panarin takes 7m per. This exceeds what has been reported and matches Tarasenko money - which honestly wouldn't be unfair.

2. Cap goes up by the same 1.6m it went up last season. This shouldn't happen given the WCH and a mildly stronger CND

3. Every player on the 2016/17 Blackhawks hits their bonuses, including Schmaltz, Forsling and Hinostroza acounting for $764,500

4. Kempny and Panik play beyond resonable raises and the team is forced to go with other options.

5. It costs a 2nd round pick to ensure LV takes Kruger.

With a little help from the Cap and the rookies not hitting their bonuses (which is likely) the team signs two other players to fill out the 23 man roster; which could then include either TVR or Pokka.

There is no realistic method of know Panarin's value. Kucherov settled for 4.7m a year for 3 years. Maybe that is closer to Panarin's numbers.

And that's fine. Did you understand the point of this was to show how it could be possible in a reality of 'worse case scenarios'?

Forward depth beyond the 1st and 2nd line is absolute atrocious. Hopefully an NHL veteran is willing to take a league minimum contract to play on a contender.

So far, the 3rd and 4th lines are doing great! They're not big goal scorers, but frankly not many team rely (or even should rely) on their 3rd/4th lines for goals. Being defensively responsible and able to defend the other team's top 6 are much bigger factors. Contributing offensively is nice, but even a little bit is all you need from the bottom 6. This year the Hawks have had an easy schedule so far, I want to see how they perform on this upcoming circus trip and Tootoo is playing great as well. Maybe getting him back would be a nice add to this lineup.
