Description
Saw someone propose on twitter the Canucks picking up Burns and came here to see what it could look like.

Want to hear the input from both Sharks and Canucks fans.

The Sharks aren't really in a bind this year, but it's mostly about their future and how locked in they are to many contracts. Canucks are the opposite where they are being bottlenecked up until the Hughes and Pettersson contracts are signed for the 2021-22 season.

I propose a Burns for Myers (One year and $2M less) + Baertschi/Sutter/Beagle/Roussel as a base trade to this scenario.

I don't know San Jose's appetite to move Burns, but if they were interested this would probably be the way to go.

As for the garnishes, Virtanen and Stecher bring depth pieces at a cost controlled level that the Sharks don't really have in their bottom-six or bottom-four D. Same with the cap-dump player.

Yes, Merkley may have more potential than Stecher, but Troy can be entrusted with heavier/defensive minutes now and that's something that the Sharks need if they want to try and bounce back this upcoming season with their core still somewhat in their prime.

Maybe a First is too much, but Benning has been saying he's going to try and recoup a first or second round pick so that's why I added it. (It's going to be #29 or later anyways, so pretty much a 2nd)

This is pretty bad for San Jose. If they're gonna deal Merkley away, they'll be acquiring a top 6 forward or a top 2 defenseman, which they aren't in this scenario.

Sharks aren't moving Merkley, especially for this...

Not to mention that we are taking back Myers...

This is horrible for SJ.

What if Merkley and Stecher were taken out of the deal?

Understandable, I saw a bit of traction on Twitter and wanted to put something together for thoughts on both sides. Do you agree with the base for a trade mentioned in the description?

I really don't think NHL GM's believe Burns has negative value - lengthy contract or not. Sharks are for sure not parting ways with their 2nd best defenseman AND adding a 1st round pick WHILE taking on Myers AND Baertschi.
