    Solid moves, but I dont think Smith or Toffoli will want to sign for that low. Also not sure if the Avs want to move on from Nichushkin unless they get an amazing trade

    Ottawa would accept for the 3rd. If we were giving up a superior asset, like most people using that as an explanation have us doing, then this is the appropriate response, but we're willing to take on 1 year of a guy with an actual cost of 1.5mil if it means we get a decent pick. We can just turn around and flip Reilly for a 4th or 5th to make room, or wait til the deadline then retain half on Russell, which would give him positive value as depth for an injury-riddled playoff team.
