trestructuring the team
Every hockey person knows this is a massive overpay for one year of Marner. Every hockey person knows Minni doesn't have the cap for this trade. Every hockey person knows that Marner has no motivation to waive to Minni.

A Sensible Leafs ACGM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jaok3</b></div><div>Agree, in 25-26 there is a lot of d-men with contracts up that could be available. I don't think the leafs should be signing any of the UFA d-men this season except maybe Roy. I'm hoping JT will comeback and do the Bergeron 1M contract to help the team have a chance to win. Put JT on the 3rd or even 4th line at that cap hit and he would be a steal with his production on the wing not center. They might have to wait and trade Marner at the TDL letting him know they won't be re-signing him. Double retention at a cap hit around 2.75M could get a reasonable return from a cup contender.</div></div>
The Leafs don't have any picks in the first four rounds in the summer of 2025, so tanking by trading Marner kinda looks ugly. But you are correct, Marner's best trade value might be at TDL 2025. HIs $$$$ contract is a lot easier for teams to absorb. Might as go all the way.....Marner, McCabe and any others on UFA expiring contracts. But if the Leafs are in Cup "contention" do they do it?

Tell Me Your Trade Ideas For Marner
Let's be real. Marner's 11m salary is only fair value at best. So it's not like teams are think they are getting a great deal for him if they give up picks or ELC players. They would be better just use the cap space to sign UFA themselves.
Some of those trades you have, have the Leafs taking back long term iffy iffy contracts. IMO the Leafs the Leafs would be better just to sign short term UFAs for the 11m Marner money.
Marner's NMC can't be ignored. Without an extension, he no reason to leave the Leafs so you can rack his 95 points playing on a good team with good line mates and a good PP. He goes to "poorer" team he might be exposed as not a 95 point player.
So what is one year of Marner worth. (let's not take extensions). Is he worth let's say UFAs Toffelli for three years and Tanev for three years. IMO that's a good deal for the Leafs.
So if that's the case, the Leafs would be better just giving him away...so they could use his cap to get six years of value from two players. Yeah, I know "giving him away" ain't happening, but would it be such as bad trade off?

There is no such team as "any team", especially for players with N MTC who aren't worth their contract.
Why does Arizona do that trade for one year of Marner and why does Marner waive to Utah?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jaok3</b></div><div>That the leafs got for a 6th round pick. If he was that good 30 other teams would have offered the canes a lot more.</div></div>
Leafs fans more than any other FANatics think ALL their draft pick/prospects are going to be NHLers.
Now I wish young Webber all the best, but highly unlikely he is ready for NHL in October or even in 24/25.
For cap reasons, the Leafs are hoping that Webber and Niemela are NHL capable Dmen in 25/26. Same with Minten and Cowan. Really the best scenario for the Leafs is they are NHL good in 25/26.
One reason IMO the Leafs best shot at the Cup is in 25/26. Marner and Tavares off the books. So that 22m can be used elsewhere, and so young guys on cheap contracts will play above their contracts.
But it's not like the Leaf get free cap when Marner and Tavares depart. Knies, Woll and Holmberg will be guys that should be deserving of more $$$$.

Their GM also said they'd be "aggressive" with their picks to try to improve the team quickly.
Marner probably waives to get a fresh start and a long term home in Utah</div></div>
I guess your belief that Marner is a "superstar" is the issue. If Marner is a superstar, there must be at least 30 in the league. How about Keller. He has 20 less points a season than Marner and he doesn't play with Matthews, Tavares, Nylander or on a great PP. Also Keller scores more goals than Marner. Marner is just fair value at 11m at best.

Don't know why Arizona trades so much for Marner. Just use that 11m on other players, instead of giving away picks.

Not sure why Coyotes do the deal. And why would Marner waive in his contract year. Always strange that Leaf fan have this distain for Timmins but think a 23 year old college player is going to an NHLer in October.

The roster is sick....11m Marner isn't waiving to Jets (who don't the deal anyway), so it's not a 21 man roster, it's 20 man roster. Leafs keep the superior and cheaper Jarnkrok over Tanev so that's more cap.

You can put M NTC Jarnkork and Kampf in the same situation. No motivation for these players to San Jose on their trade lists.

Look Here - Another Marner to Nashville Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Korczak is a very good young defender. The issue is that he is Vegas' 8D next season and loses his waiver exemption. They are tight on cap space and are losing a bunch of forwards this offseason, primarily wingers. Robertson would get a legit shot there and would be a very savvy pickup. Meanwhile, Korczak is a physical defensive defenseman who shoots right and has an immediate role in Toronto. This trade actually makes a lot of sense.
Also, the obvious stipulation in the Marner deal is that Marner would indicate a willingness to re-sign in Nashville. Sure, they can keep Saros and their 5 mil, but what good is that? Who are they adding for 5m that makes an impact like Marner does? Plus, they've got Askarov. Maybe he gets included in the trade instead</div></div>
Why wouldn't Korczak be on Vegas's roster next season? Martinez and 5.3 contract will be gone. If he's an NHLer at 1.2m, as you indicate, why Vegas trade him
A "willingness to resign". No, it has to be signed contract. Marner right now is just fair value at best with 11m contract. There is no benefit trading good assets just to resign Marner.Just as good value can be as UFAs this season or next. Isn't that the reason you traded Marner.....better value for 11m.

I kinda think the Leafs are the wrong team. Leafs shouldn't be trading any of cost effective players on ELCs. Actually Andersson's value might be just as good or more at TDL. Some team that needs a RHD for two playoffs and a cost efficient player. If Flames are in rebuild that may be the way to go.

The Markstrom trade could happen, but gotta think Jersey is happy with Allen and just sign a UFA goalie.
One year of 5.8m Mango isn't worth that to CBJ or any team
Cowan and a first is too much for the Leafs to give up for Andersson. Leafs will just sign a UFA for probably more money though not as good as Andersson. The Leafs have so few prospects and OHL player of the year Cowan just can't be traded for two years of Andersson.

Why give up so much for an 31 year Parayko. Just sign a UFA short term,.

Buffalo needs help down the middle and adding a veteran voice who will bring his lessons with him will help the team make the playoffs. Buffalo is close by so he doesn't have to uproot his family. It's not a bad destination at all.
And Ullmark is an elite goalie. A couple of picks for an elite goalie is fair value.</div></div>
Sorry, that is isn't good logic for any team paying for Marner. I doubt he is a superstar, unless you think there are 30 superstars playing right now., Nylander, Marchant.Pasternak are superior wingers and that's just in the Atlantic. Marner is just fair value at 11m. at best What's he going to be when he doesn't play with a superior centre and PP.r If he's so good why trade him?. Cause you know his 11m can be allotted better. Same reason why he an a near impossible trade, and really does he even get 11m in his contract.
Can Sabres even afford 11m for Tavares? They can use 11m on UFAs better......,just like you did.
Ullmark is a good goalie on a good defensive team. Is he going to be that good behind the Leafs defence? I know it's subjective but that seems way too high a price to pay for one year of Ullmark.
Way too much term on some of those UFA contracts. Mid to late 30s....Leafs will have a bunch of Tavares and Brodies on their hands
