Will likely see Kreider move to the right side. He's most effective as a net presence anyway, he doesn't need to be on the left side. Probably ends up being Laf-Z-Kreider and then Panarin-Copp/Chytil-Kakko

Rangers need a center true but I don't think he's a fit when you take into consideration character, cap hit/term, and age.
And Gallant said today that Laf will be in the top 6 and on the PP next year.

Gotta think they refrain from signing Vatrano, unless it were a one year deal. Othmann and Cullye will be ready for NHL action by this time next year the latest.

This is... an annoyingly and worryingly feasible thing to happen to the Rangers. No way they can (or should) match that, but the compensation would be awful. Really a lose lose for the Rangers lol.

Think the Rangers can do without Vatrano. Lots of winger depth in the pipeline. I hope Chytil can be 2C though. Would be great to save cap space by not signing Copp.

Rangers for the cup
Commit the money you gave to Maatta to Copp instead (it will take around $5.5 mil to re-sign him probably) and the roster looks great. May need to trade Reaves to make more cap space but agree that trading Nemeth has to be the priority. I'll even trade a 2nd round pick to get it done.

Yeah that's fair. I'm not a fan of giving up on him yet (I'm not in the Kakko is a bust crowd) but Dach does intrigue me. I was actually hoping they'd draft him in 2019 given our need for centers... which is even more dire now given our cap space lol. But yeah ultimately I agree with you, probably shouldn't trade Kakko even for Dach.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rstenzel</b></div><div>as an oilers fan i actually think this is a decent trade, you get a young dman for a fair price and a small cap increase, the upgrading the pick to a second to take on kassian is the type of trades i think holland should make. this only happens however if either keith retires or they trade barrie.
the rangers trade however, i think you are off your rocker. no chance NYR throws a first there for that, if anything id argue detroit should throw in the first, and i still dont think NYR says yes.</div></div>
As a Rangers fan, I agree it's a bit too steep for my liking. Trouba is coming off a great season and is in his prime. The lifecycle of the contract is the only thing that might hold Detroit back from adding but honestly I'd trade Trouba straight up for a 2nd round pick. No Bertuzzi, Zadkna, Kakko, Chytil, etc. You're getting a bona fide 2RHD to play big minutes behind Seider for just a second round pick. I'd love to keep Trouba but we need the cap space and we have Schneider and Lundkvist.

Mega Deal
I've been saying for a while that I think Trouba would waive for Detroit. There are tons of naysayers on this site who will tell you otherwise though. They argue:
1. He has a NMC
Forgetting that he can still be traded if he agrees to it, which he likely would to go back home to Michigan
2. His girlfriend went to school/works in NYC
Healthcare is a booming industry and NYC is not the only place she can find a good job
3. Jacob himself won't want to leave NY
People's situations change all the time. You never know, maybe now a few years later he wants to be closer to his family.
Just putting that out there because people get crazy about any ACGM Trouba trades lol.

I'm pretty firmly in the camp of giving Kakko more time to develop whenever I see trade proposals that include him in a package for P Kane etc etc. But this is an intriguing one that I think I'd be willing to do as a Rangers fan. Similar draft positions, ceilings/potential, skill level, NHL performance thus far. The change of scenery could be good for each player and the Rangers could really benefit from a potential breakout center at 2C.

Change of scenery for both players who play different positions (RW vs. C). Dach scored 26 points this season, a one for one with Kakko is only fair as their values are equal.
Hawks wouldn't (and shouldn't) trade Dach for multiple assets. They probably shouldn't trade him at all. But for Kakko, who is in a similar situation but has a similarly high potential ceiling, I think they should do it. And the Rangers should do (need centers).

I think we need to trade Reaves and add an asset or two to a package that sees Nemeth leave as well. And personally I think we need to let Vatrano walk. He's great but not an x factor, and we have plenty of wingers coming up soon (Othmann, Cullye, Kravtsov probably coming back).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>Theres no, “our,” I’m not on the team.
Reality is, you just spouted a whole bunch of, “they will,” when you have absolutely no idea.
A lot of forwards, most of them actually, start to decline once turning 30.
You have no earthly clue that panarin, Zibanejad, and kreider will carry on.
You have no idea if the kid line will improve. I think lafreniere will. I don’t think the others will.
You have no clue that those prospects will move in. Most don’t. Most fail.
Anyone have any clue how to, “macgyver,” the center position? Any plausible plans?
I don’t see the path to get back to where they just were.</div></div>
It seems you've made up your mind about the Rangers before this conversation began. I don't want to keep talking in circles and we'll just have to agree to disagree.
But I'll leave you with this - when the Lightning lost to CBJ in 2019, Stamkos and Hedman were 29. Their front office didn't pack it in and say "this it it for us." They went to three straight ECFs and won two straight Stanley Cups along the way.
And let's not forget that that same year, your Bruins went to the SCF with a 33 year old 1C in Bergeron and 33 year old 2C in Krejci, not to mention a 42 year old top Dman. And the Bruins STILL committed to their core after that, signing Hall to a long term contract just last year.
The Rangers are not past their prime. They literally just started. And I don't think Chris Drury is going into teardown mode and rebuilding again because his veterans are just under 30.

Literally answered this earlier in the thread. The many many players under 25 (Laf and Kakko are under 22, mind you) who have yet to reach their potential. They become the support for the veterans you mentioned. That's how.

Yes, i think this is as far as the panarin, Zibanejad, kreider group go.</div></div>
I think the point you're missing is that most Rangers fans would probably agree that this team shouldn't have made it out of the first round. Where the disconnect happens is where you say things like "this is as far as the group will go" when the youth of this team has yet to fill in around those veteran players. I mean that's quite literally the organization's plan. Let the kids develop and support the vets so we become contenders. An ECF appearance in 2022 was never the plan, if anything it was a dream.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>Yes, 59 even strength points, which i think is his lowest rate since he was on chicago.
Again…i don’t think the window was ever open, and i just don’t see why this team gets better. Think kreider is going to do that again? Where’s the center depth coming from? I don’t think this team should have gotten out of the first round, and i don’t see a realistic route for them to be better next season.</div></div>
Players tend to score less when on deeper teams. The first few season with the Rangers it was all up to Panarin. This year they had Kreider scoring out of his mind, Lafreniere scoring 19 goals at even strength, Vatrano in the mix late in the season too. I'm not surprised his numbers decreased.
I don't think Kreider is going to do that again. And I don't think they have gotten out of the first round. But I fully disagree that this is it for them and there's no way to improve. They've just barely scratched the surface of what their young players can do. They will likely re-sign Motte and Copp. Center depth isn't great even with Copp back in the field but the wings will make up for that (Chicago won three cups with a 1C and two 3Cs).
