That'd be a fun 4th line, could see it being an effective trio, really wish they'd start putting Vesalainen in a position to hammer pucks on net, I've yet to see this booming shot I've heard so much about.</div></div>
The Jets have chemistry and a win streak with the Connor-Dubois-Svechnikov and Stas-Copp-Ehlers lines. I’m content to continue to roll those two lines and try to find someone who clicks with Scheifele and Wheeler. Matchup nightmare for opponents. Call them 1A-1B-1C. Harkins-Lowry-Nash can smash everything in sight for 6 minutes a night.

I like it. Scheifele and Wheeler need to earn minutes. The current top 6 are playing the right way.

Perfetti returns to the AHL unfortunately. They want him getting top line/pp1 minutes not bottom 6 minutes.

Wonder if Dell would've been worth claiming?
I'm fine with Comrie getting a chance and seeing what Berdin can do as well.
I've gone through the opposition lineups/rosters and the only goalies that I could see that would be available and clear upgrades were Greiss and Rittich, not sure what either would cost to acquire and how their cap hits could be fit, will be interesting to see how the goaltending situation shakes out for the as the season goes on.</div></div>
I have very little confidence in Comrie winning games <em>for</em> the Jets. He will get wins but only because the Jets outplay their opponents. Winnipeg needs to find someone more reliable to back up Helly.

He would be their third goalie and have to clear waivers once Varlamov returns. (Unless they carry three goalies)

Lowry is a very important player for the Jets. Top penalty killer and a beast 5 on 5. Always willing to drop the mitts to protect teammates. Leader both on and off the ice. Dave Lowry is also one of the coaches. He would be tough to move for the Jets.

Team that could beat the Lightning with cap salaries
If you arbitrarily keep Stone on the IR until the playoffs, you can add another 9.5M in cap space. Adding Draisaitl or Matthews to this roster would come in handy. Play by their rules, not the NHLs.

Do think we'll regularly see Vesalainen at least this year, not sure about Harkins even though Maurice speaks well of him, not sure who has more of the inside track for the 4th line winger role between Harkins, Toninato and Svechnikov, wonder where Gustafsson fits as well.</div></div>
I actually like the idea of a Harkins-Gustafsson-Vesalainen/Svech 4th line but Riley Nash was signed to play so he will likely be C/RW there. Not sure if Nash could fit with Copp and Lowry.

I know he's on a PTO with NJ and the Jets are likely done with their offseason moves, he seems like he could be of use and a guy Maurice would like.</div></div>
I'm still waiting for a last minute signing of a 35 year old or two (ie. Zajac, Staal) to keep Harkins and Vesalainen out of the line-up.

Out of training camp
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ducky10</b></div><div>Bro, you put a lot of thought into this. My 2 cents would be to consider the playing styles of the forwards and try to optimize skillsets that could work well together I like a Stastny, Dubois, Ehlers trio for my first look. Dubois is a powerful dude who can go to the net and cause chaos, he is hard on the wall, skates extremely well and has a great shot release. This IMO would mesh well with the zone entry machine that is Nik Ehlers and the wicked smart Paul Stastny. I envision 27 swirling around the O zone playing catch with 25 while 80 commands attention in front of the net. I realize this leaves us with 81, 55 and 26 as a Line 1B but I also see the Jets concentrating on deploying more of a 5 man unit which should cover up some of the defensive deficiencies.
I'm not convinced Ves is the best option on the 3rd line as the players that have succeeded in that slot have been burners that fore check deep and hard (Tanev and Appleton). KV is not that! Lowry is fast but not quick and Copp is average all around. I'm hopeful for Svechnikov but would rather see a Harkins get a shot here. Vesalainen and Gustafsson showed some great chemistry with the Moose previously!
As for D pairs i agree they gotta go Pionk and Dillon as the top pair with Morrisey and Demelo followed by Schmidt and Stanley. Nate will get his minutes on the power play and you can shorten the bench in tighter games. He struggled last year in Van and I think he needs to prove that was an anomaly first! I believe he can return to his all star Vegas form but...
Go Jets go!</div></div>
Well thought out. Ehlers can make any line work better. In the footage I saw of Dubois’ time in Columbus, it appeared he was often the puck carrier into the zone. I wasn’t sure if Dubois being with Ehlers would change his game into more of a trailer.
One of my biggest problems with the 81-55-26 line is that Scheifele likes to float around for 1:00-1:30 shifts. Wheeler is gassed at the 35 second mark. He goes off and the line combinations get garbled until there is a whistle. Scheifele needs to skate hard and get off. Way too many figure skating shifts, circling around hoping an offensive opportunity will arise.

explaining the 2022 lineup
The Jets have an excellent problem of having 5 top 4 defenders this season. I can’t imagine Schmidt would drop to third pairing minutes unless he proves he is the odd man out. Stanley and DeMelo would likely start the season as the third pairing.
Heinola and Perfetti are both unfortunately going to have to wait for an injury before they get their shot. Hopefully they can do what KC81 did and make the most of that opportunity.

I'm going to admit that I am not a huge fan of Scheifele's game. His lack of commitment to his defensive responsibilities and his long meandering shifts drive me nuts. Scheif has tons of talent, he just needs to play the game harder. Only IF he can round out his game, he is worth a massive contract.

Next Year
I hope Dubois earns that contract this season. I found he played better when with Wheeler last season so I hope they play him with Wheels this season and let Ehlers finally get first line minutes. I agree that the Copp 1 year deal was to keep the band together for this season and he will sign an extension by Christmas using some of the cap space from Stastny's expiring deal. The biggest question for me who do the Jets move to allow for Heinola and eventually Samberg to get into the lineup? Can't see them moving Morrissey so it likely ends up being one of Dillon or Stanley. Unfortunately, big hitting defensive defensemen are what the Jets need to offset the more offensively minded Schmidt, Pionk, and Morrissey. By 2023, I envision defense pairings of:
Heinola-Pionk
Morrissey-Schmidt
Stanley-DeMelo
Samberg
That would have the Jets trading Dillon and burying Samberg. Nice to have too many top 4 eligible dmen.

I truly appreciate what Copp and Lowry do for the Jets both short handed and even strength. Forwards get paid premiums for putting up points but Copp jest plays the game the right way. Was on pace for over 50 points over 82 games last season so I would think comparables would trend in the $4M+ range.

Coleman would be a great signing if the Jets could swing it. Armia might be a less expensive alternative and has proven to work well with Copp and Lowry. I don't think Risto will cost much after seeing what it cost Philly to get out from Ghost's contract.
