Wait…rust and Heinen are the odd guys out cause of cap but you sign ERod for over 3 million per year? You made this team way worse…why not add Crosby and Guentzel to the Kane trade while you’re massively overpaying lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Yeah that’s what I think too. They could use that 2nd to unload zucker , sign Formenton a bridge in the 2s and save 7 mill to sign a big name</div></div>
Idk if they’d even unload Zucker tbh. They love Zucker. He’s just had terrible luck with injuries. He plays well with everybody except Malkin. Which is understandable cause Malkin doesn’t really like to play the system. He kinda just roams and relies on his skill to be good. Zucker does best when he can carry the puck in the zone and set up. Which is why he works well with Crosby cause Crosby is willing to let him do that. And works well with Blueger and Carter too. Malkin is the only center we have that does not want to defer to anyone else and wants to carry the puck into the zone. I think if Malkin walks and Zucker gets to play with anyone else he will rebound in scoring. Especially considering it’s a contract year for him. If we can replace Malkin with a guy like Trocheck and maybe trade Kap for a pick too, our forward team could be stacked and hopefully have enough cap to sign a guy like Lyubushkin to be the 2RD until the d we’d get in this trade is ready.

That’s not a bad trade. I’d prefer to trade Marino for a top 6 forward, but formenton could become a 2LW and would probably sign a cheaper bridge deal. Would definitely want one of Thompson or JBD as they are right handed cause sully likes the dmen playing on their handed side if possible.
If it was Formenton, JBD or Thompson, and a late 1st or early 2nd. It would probably be worth the risk that Formenton takes another step to becoming a top 6 and the defenseman becomes a top 4

Does Petry-Marino make any sense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>Show me one stat or metric that he's better than Petry over the last 5 years? I posted black and white stats. Petry had everything go against him last season with family issues and a horrid team yet still outperformed 1 goal Marino.
Believing and showing are 2 different things.</div></div>
An offense defenseman outscored a defensive defenseman by a whopping two points…that doesn’t help your case lol. But you want black and white stats/metrics that prove Marino is better ok. Tell you what, I’ll throw you a bone too. I’ll compare Petry’s career year two years ago instead of his terrible year last year vs Marino’s year last year.
Petry 20-21 season: 77% War % QOT(Quality of teammates) 52% PP 16% PK 7%
Marino 21-22 season: 78% War % QOT 26% PP 22% PK 22%
But since trades are what have you done for me lately let’s compare last year:
Petry: 27 pts in 68 GP 22:07 TOI 43.6 OZS to 56.4 DZS
Marino: 25 pts in 81 GP 20:38 TOI 38.6 OZS to 61.4 DZS
Petry: 1.1 pts/60 as an offensive dman
Marino .9 pts/60 as a defensive dman
It’s undeniable that Marino is not only better overall but better bang for the buck in the few stats that he’s slightly lesser than Petry in.
http://naturalstattrick.com/playercompare.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=ev&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=n&p1=8478507&p2=8473507&loc=B&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single
John Marino is better in almost every category.
http://naturalstattrick.com/playercompare.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=pp&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=n&p1=8478507&p2=8473507&loc=B&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single
Petry got significantly more time on the PP yet only outscored Marino by 2 points. And Marino was arguably better than Petry on the power play as a defensive defenseman lol.
Now let’s talk about how Petry should start a bakery because he’s a turnover machine.
Petry 21-22 12 Takeaways 107 giveaways
20-21 10 takeaways 75 giveaways
19-20 30 takeaways 88 giveaways
18-19 39 takeaways 129 giveaways
17-18 41 takeaways 102 giveaways
Those numbers would make even Letang and Malkin blush who are our biggest turnover machines but their good outweighs their flaws. Petry…not so much.
Marino 21-22 43 takeaways 35 giveaways
20-21 29 takeaways 21 giveaways
19-20 37 takeaways 42 giveaways

Doubt Chicago accepts that. Zucker would have no value to Chicago. They are totally tearing it down. Swap Zucker for Pettersson & Kapanen and you’re closer. You can also keep Dumoulin then. And Legare not Poulin will start the season with the team and that will give you close to 4 million in cap space. Re-sign Heinen to play a middle 6 LW spot and O’Connor gets the other spot.

No Marino is certainly better too. And idk what Letang has to do with this other than show it makes even less sense. If the pens already have 1 RHD signed to 6+ million for the next 6 years, why would we want another 6+ million defenseman, much less another 6+ million right handed defenseman?

If you’re going to overpay for POJ’s new contract then it needs to be for at least 4 years. There’s no reason to give him more than 925k unless he is signing for longer term. He’s only played a handful of games at the nhl level and that was 2 seasons ago

Yeah it would. The idk what Zucker would have to do with anything here lol. I’d rather have a bloated contract for only one year than 2. I mean Backlund + Zucker would be almost 11 million too. So I really don’t get where Zucker comes into the equation

Monahan is in his final year of contract. So it’s not awful. It would be a last resort type of thing though and we’d definitely not pay for him. Or if we did it would be like a 7th round pick or Ahl scrub

If the pens aren’t able to re-sign Malkin, trade for Miller, or sign Trocheck/Copp, they maybe interested in a guy like Monahan or Backlund. But they won’t pay a 2nd and probably wouldn’t need Kylington since we are trying to get rid of a LHD as it is.
