Carolina Hurricanes signed Derek Stepan (1 Year / $1,350,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jr400</b></div><div>His numbers were declining before he got to Ottawa, but I just saw Trocheck's name on the injured list, so maybe we'll get to find out soon if Stepan can still play higher in the lineup.</div></div>
I've learned recently, I don't remember where unfortunately, that Stepan is known to have some off-ice attitude issues and that he's a bit of a bad influence on younger players.
I wish I could find that info for you.

I was thinking that Stepan could be one of those sneaky good UFA signings from this year. Might be wasted on a 4th line though. I think he still has lots of game left, it's just that Ottawa wasn't a fit.

Suggestions Megathread
Maybe it's been suggested...
Armchair GM team screen:
- the current Taxi Squad section which will no longer be needed should be converted to the RFA section. Players in this section cannot be added to your lineup, deleted or bought out but can be added to trades.
- Add a Sign RFA tab that you can drag RFA players to that opens the 'negotiation' drop-down.
- Add all unsigned drafted players to this RFA section.

How do we make it work
Agreed on your top-6. I think the bottom-6 will be:
Toffoli - Kotkaniemi - Armia
Byron - Evans - Lehkonen
On D, there is some flexibility. I agree that Romanov should start on LD. For 6D, after the playoffs, I think it's Kulak's spot to lose.
Chiarot - Weber
Romanov - Petry
Kulak - Edmundson
To get under the cap, Weal needs to be sent down or we pay a pick for someone to take him.
If the Habs have a need right now, it's a replacement for Thompson. A 4C that can win important draws in the Dzone. Evans and Poehling may get an opportunity to start the season.

Montreal Canadiens signed Noah Juulsen (1 Year / $700,000 AAV)
He had just established himself as an NHL defenseman before the injury and had top4 upside. Now after 2 years away, he has to see if he can get back on track. This is a good signing for both sides. Zero risk, high reward (relatively speaking).

A Couple Realistic Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>If you signed Granlund for $6M, why not just skip the Wild trade and give that money to Domi?
For value Wild need to add more to get Domi. Domi is better than Greenway, Fistov is a decent prospect but not a sure thing, and Bitten (I don;t like) looks like an AHL lifer.</div></div>
I'd love to be able to keep Domi as a LW but he wants an opportunity to play C, which won't happen unless there are injuries. He'd get that opportunity in Minnesota.

Updated Roster - Proposed Lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>if you want Kovalchuk to miss the net and see a lot of pucks up over the glass put Kovalchuk on RW
If you want to see good scoring attempts and a ton of rebounds for our battlers in Gallagher , Armia , and Cousins then put him on LW .
i watched a lot of Kovalchuk in the NHL and KHL , i can recall a half dozen games maybe where he played RW
13 career hat tricks from LW though tells me he's who you want with Domi and Armia because they cycle pucks and drive the net making them always 1 stride away from closing in on a rebound .
Tatar-Danault-Suzuki
Kovalchuk-Domi -Armia
Lehkonen-KK-Weal
Cousins-Thompson-Poehling
healthy :
Tatar-Danault-Gallagher
Drouin-Domi-Suzuki
Kovalchuk-KK-Armia (6'3 and 6'4 big wings for 6'2 KK .. easily the heavyweight line )
Lehkonen-Thompson-Byron
Cousins</div></div>
I was just excited about having a right-handed winger on the right side with Gallagher and Armia out. But, you know him better than I so I'll take your advice. I'd still rather see him lower in the lineup 5-on-5 with a responsible two-way C that can cover for him defensively but still compliment him offensively like Danault.

Updated Roster - Proposed Lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>Why are we breaking up Tatar and Danault?</div></div>
With Gallagher out and the season in the crapper, it may not be a bad idea to try out some different line combinations, or use Tatar and Danault's consistent play to help lift some younger players.

It's not a news report, it's speculative. Folin's conditioning stint is done, he'd have to clear waivers to stay in Laval. Vejdemo is the next guy that deserves a call-up.

Opening Night Comments on Most Players
Forwards: Your lineup is pretty much mine, except I think because of missed time in pre-season, Poehling starts in Laval. Thompson would be 4C for now.
At some point I'd like to see Tatar/Kotkaniemi and Domi/Gallagher, Drouin/Danault as forward pairings but now is not the time to shake it up.
Defence: I'd stick to the plan for now
Mete - Weber
Chiarot - Petry
Kulak - Fleury
(Reilly, Folin)
Against teams with a bigger, more physical top lines I'd move Mete down to the 3rd pairing.

That $25M doesn't look so good when you look closely and realize you have very few players under contract.

I think Edmonton's only way out of this very bad situation they're in is to leverage Draisaitl's value. Maybe you're right that this doesn't get it done so I'll rework it and show it from Edmonton's side.
