Joseph F Veleno
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barbs</b></div><div>I would debate that. Just because Veleno put up big numbers in the Q doesn't mean he was better than Zadina. Pro hockey is a tough adjustment and Zadina did play 9 games for the Wings last year. He would probably have the better odds of making the team</div></div>
For sure, it’s totally debatable. I think Veleno looked better last preseason, had a better WJC (given his role), a better regular season and has looked better this summer. I totally agree that Zadina played much tougher competition last season and his 16+19 in the AHL is more impressive than he gets credit for. That’s a really tough league and a difficult adjustment, especially given it was only his second year in NA. My opinion is that the body of work over the past year has been more robust for Veleno and he has looked better side-by-side this summer, IMO.

Zadina is not injured. Veleno has been more impressive over the past year tho.

Is this the year
I honestly didn’t think other fan bases saw Helm as a top 6 guy. I like him a lot as a bottom 6 forward. Works his bag off, good on the forecheck and below the goal lines / on the wall.. but his skill level is really low. I don’t think he would be effective in consistently playing in a top 6.

REALISTIC GOALS FOR WINGS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Leafs will gladly give you Zaitsev just to save cap. You can keep Bowey. <strong>What's the insanity about Clarkson being traded? </strong> Green stays a Wing till TDL and then you might agree to a trade.</div></div>
Vegas asked for his no-trade list; a pretty strong indicator that they are looking to move him. And the Wings are a team looking to leverage cap space into young assets. That is the insanity.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caboose119z</b></div><div><strong>Chevy asked Stevie for Hronek for Trouba straight up and Stevie said no</strong>. Add in 6th overall and Bertuzzi? Damn dude I try to be constructive with these but this is so astronomically high cost there's not much I can offer. I don't see a deal involving Connor happening. He's great but I don't see the Wings pursuing him in addition to Trouba if 6th overall and Bertuzzi are the cost. I'd counter with 2 2nd's (including pick 35) and Gustav Lindstrom for just Trouba. Any more and I don't see a deal working out, he just wouldn't be worth the cost to a rebuilding team when we can have cost controlled assets instead.</div></div>
Where did you see this?

First Timer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmac19</b></div><div>I’m with you in that I really hope we can land 1-3 and grab another top tier talent. But this was my scenario if we fall in the draft and don’t get that legitimate scoring threat.
I think the key thought here was that if they can land a Myers and add scoring (could be Duchene, Skinner, Hayes) or wait until the following year to add that scoring. They will still have the cap space to pursue another D man in 2020 via free agency and hopefully hit a stud in the draft in the next 2 years.
Ultimately, I think in 2 more years the cap space is there and if they draft well this team will have a lot of young talent and opportunity to address weaknesses via free agency.</div></div>
So, I'm definitely biased because I saw him play a few weeks ago... but Alex Turcotte is a stud. I think he has the highest upside of Cozens, Dach, Byram, Zegras. If we are picking in the 3-7 range - which is likely - he's the guy I prefer.

Deadline maneuvers - NYR-PIT-COL-DET - input requested
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>Do you mind giving me your thoughts on what a specific Glendening/Jensen package would cost, in your opinion? Just want to get a general feel</div></div>
To me, Glendening and Brown are similar type of players.. I prefer LGD over Brown and Brown has a higher cap hit. I also prefer Jensen to Ohziganov. So to me, there is negative net value coming to Detroit between those two player swaps, which is why you added the second - to even the value, which I can appreciate. I do not think a second round pick, however, is not enough to close the value gap for those player swaps. I know LGD and Jensen are not high-end players, but they are core players, important to the culture in Detroit which (artificially) drives up the asking price. I think Detroit would do something around Liljegren, Connor Brown, Ohziganov and a second or third.
Would Toronto even want a guy with Glendening’s contract? My understanding is that they plan to cycle players on their ELC in the bottom six moving forward. Not that $1.8M AAVis a ton of money, but it’s only $300k less than Brown, who seems destined to move this summer because his cap hit is too high.

The roster ist good enough to give away all the picks. Maybe in a few years if they hit on a bunch and need a franchise guy to compete for a decade</div></div>
“Quite frankly, we're not the most patient people. We've been used to winning. We may have to go outside the box to push this program along. I won't go into detail about that, but we may have to go outside the box and do things that normally aren't done in order to push us up the standings and to get more competitive.
"You need to start somewhere with a superstar," Devellano said. "We recognize that. I can tell you as long as Ken Holland and Jimmy D are involved, we will be aggressive.“

Despite your feelings about the roster, these quotes being on the record, combined with the increasing feelings that this will be the summer that offer sheets are used again.. “no, just no” may be a little shortsighted

Jimmy Howard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Larkinisking</b></div><div>I think Allen+Walman would suffice from the Blues for Howard. The 3rd isn't needed imo.</div></div>
I disagree. If we take Allen, that’s 3 more years of a $4M+ goalie, who quite frankly has not shown he is worth that money. I don’t see acquiring Allen as being a desirable asset in this trade, to me the return would have to be greater if the Wings were to take back Allen. A few weeks ago it was reported that the Wings prefer to resign Howard rather than trade him. So, to Dreger’s point, I would assume the price for Jimmy is high. Now, I think the Kyrou/Thomas chatter is absurd, but I think the Wings would rather resign Jimmy if the Blues won’t go higher than Allen + Walman.
