(PIT/CHI) - Määttä for Kahun & 2019 5th round pick
This is like waking up on Christmas morning!!! Cap Space, a near 40 point scorer (in his rookie season) PLUS a 5th round pick in this years deep draft! Love it! Thanks Maatta for helping us earn more Cups but it's time to move on. Enjoy!

Hawks get a top 4 defenseman for a 40 point winger and a 5th round pick. I like this trade for the Hawks

OOOOF
What a bad signing. 9 Million for a guy who has a season high of 63 points. He put up 40 goals, but only had 17 in the final 42.

It would be 50 contract exempt since he's 19

This kid should be given a lot more consideration to be among the Habs top prospects. Named Memorial Cup MVP, had 34pts in 20playoff games in the QMJHL, 80pts in 66season games.

You do realize he traded Kessel to the New Jersey Devils right? I mean c'mon dude. I'm not gonna keep bringing it up but the logos are clearly different and NJD looks nothing like DET.

Montreal Canadiens signed Jordan Weal (2 Years / $1,400,000 AAV)
He was excellent in his short time with the Habs, and this contract is very reasonable, I thought he might command more. Bizarrely he was very effective on the PP and actually gave it legs right in the last few weeks of the season after nearly a full year of embarrassment. Also a good right-handed face-off guy.

PENS FANS - PLEASE LISTEN
I don't think anyone actually hates Letang or think he's garbage. Sports fans tend to be like that during the playoffs and have a rather short memory for what players contributed throughout an entire season. Especially after being ousted in the first round when they are used to making deep playoff runs they need someone to blame. The panic button is broken because Pens, Flames, and Lightning fans are hypothetically blowing up their whole roster. I've seen so many Calgary Armchair GMs ship out Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund. because they failed to perform when it mattered most. Plus this is the website to let those frustrations out with wild trades.

This'll probably be another Joe Thornton situation where he takes one-year deals until he's ready to retire. So Boston can keep him on the cheap for the rest of his career while he's still very effective. Helps them out a bunch

So starting next year Mark Stone will be getting paid the same amount as Nikita Kucherov. Either Mark Stone is grossly overpaid or Nikita Kucherov is grossly underpaid

he's 18. he's played over 90 games in finland, training camp and with the habs. he's a skinny kid. he needs rest. dont know why ppl are freaking out. plus the next 3 teams are kings, ducks and sharks which are all 3 big heavy teams. he'll body will take a massive toll if he plays all 3 at this time of the year.

Trade Deadline Winners and Losers
Biggest Winners:
1) NSH - absolute highway robbery of granlund from MIN and also added Simmonds for cheap. 2 very good trades which makes them an even bigger cup favourite.
2) VGK - getting the biggest UFA forward signed signed to an (unofficial) extension.
3) OTT - they get a lot of heat for past trades (and they deserve it), but I cant ignore the return they got for their pending UFAs. This rebuild probably wont take that long.
4) COL - Indirectly win through OTTs moves which nearly guarantees them the best odds at 1st overall. They also got Brassard for cheap to help for a playoff push.
5) NYR - good on them for committing to the rebuild and getting some assets rather than risking letting them walk. Not a huge return for Hayes/McQuaid/Zucc but they made the right choice to move on and got fair value for them.
Biggest Losers:
1) TBL - No moves are worse than minor moves when you consider how much some other cup contenders added (NSH, VGK, WPG, SJS, CBJ). TBL should have gone all out on a rental this year in my opinion.
2) MIN - Could have gotten a much bigger return on Granlund in my opinion.
To Be Determined:
1) CBJ - this is a big wildcard. They had the balls to go all in with Duchene, Dzingel, McQuaid, & Kinkaid and keep Panarin and Bobrovsky. We will see this offseason if they can resign the big guys or not which will determine if this was a good deadline for them or not.

(VAN/PIT) - Gudbranson for Pearson
Gudbranson was a perfect d-man for a different era : really big and really mean. Those attributes are far less useful now, he hasn't surpassed 15 points in a season. But Pitts has injuries and I guess that forced their hand. And the per-season cost is pretty much the same.
