I don't know if you have a subscription to the athletic but in this article they talk about some comparable contracts in Mantha (5.7x 4), Josh Anderson (5.5x7) and Bjorkstrand (5.4 x 5). So I'd say 6x5 is reasonable.

I mean you arent consistent with your logic</div></div>
I really doubt they protect him and yeah his contract here is on the lighter side but the focal point of this post was on Reinhart.

Just because he hasn't made any public statements doesn't mean he's not frustrated with his time in Buffalo. Yeah, this is a lot of speculation but that's how you project future transactions in the league. To say my accusations are way off is a little ridiculous man, just look at the team, the season they've had and the last ten years.

The end
Accept that & let it go</div></div>
Reinhart's been dicked around in contract negotiations with Buffalo throughout his career, he had to sign a one-year deal last offseason. Skinner signed long term because Buffalo gave him a ridiculous contract that he wouldn't get anywhere else and he's from Toronto. Eichel meanwhile signed that deal out of his ELC. You have to take the context and timing of these contracts into considerations.

And until Eichel is traded, u might as well accept that</div></div>
Buffalo is last in the league, there is no winning now. Also what makes you think he's going to want to sign long-term? The odds are heavily stacked in the opposite direction.

Well for one they risk losing him for nothing in expansion. Another reason being Colorado has a big offseason ahead with major signings like Landeskog and Makar and as a result of tight cap space he's traded.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jdfitz77</b></div><div>It really is that black & white
IF Eichel is traded, & that’s a BIG “if”
Then i could still see us wanting more than just a 1st in a weak draft
We’d essentially just be hoping for that pick to turn into Sam,
so there’s not much incentive to make that deal
Reinhart may very well be named Captain if Eichel is traded</div></div>
I don't think you're factoring in Reinhart's contract situation at all which significantly affects his value. Like I said before, he has arbitration rights and is one year out of UFA. if he wanted he could sign a one-year deal and then leave Buffalo for nothing. Maybe you recoup some value at the trade deadline but it won't be a top 15 pick. Also, I'm just ball-parking the value. Maybe a prospect like Rathbone or Lind is added but this is just the rough idea.

And why would Reinhart want to sign a long-term deal with the Sabres? They are the laughing stock of the NHL and haven't been a competitive team for almost a decade.

It just doesn’t make sense for us at all
Reinhart MIGHT become available if we trade Eichel
But Jokiharju is young enough that we’d keep him- especially since he & Dahlin have gelled together as a pair</div></div>
Reinhart is one year away from being a UFA and has arbitration rights this offseason. They may be similar in age but Eichel and Reinhart are not in the same situation and will be dealt with separately.

Well, Reinhart for a top 15 pick is reasonable. Lind and some excess value from the pick for Jokiharju I would agree is a bit of a stretch.

Really not interested in trading away draft picks and trying to repair the roster through free agency. It's these kinds of moves that got the Canuck's in the hole they're in now.

Best Case
I like that you put some thought into your decisions and gave supporting reasoning but I find it interesting that you didn't make a single move to address the Canucks' greatest weakness on the blue line. Also, i don't think Shwartz and Hoffman are comparables, especially in their UFA positions. Hoffman is a controversial player off the ice but also on the ice as he is great at one thing, with that being scoring goals, but bad at everything else. So it's much riskier to sign a player like Hoffman than Schwartz. With that being said, I think priority Number 1 for the Canucks is to find a defence partner for Hughes.

Right now he's a decent bottom-pairing defenceman who can move the puck but lacks great mobility. He's faired well so far but in a very limited role and in only 8 games so it's hard to say what he'll become. In my eyes, he could become the successor to Alex Edler as a solid skilled second pairing defenceman who can be deployed in all situations.

You're in no rush to move him until he becomes a disgruntled asset because the Leafs have 8 NHL defencemen and his development is being stunted.
