Not sure why people or voting Florida here. Montour is terrible and the Sabres win by even getting a 3rd out of him.

Vancouver Canucks signed Tanner Pearson (3 Years / $3,250,000 AAV)
Pettersson and Hughes need new contracts this off season, and the only core player Benning has locked in long-term is Thatcher Demko.
Vancouver is still far from being a contender and Benning has cap strapped them. Incredible that this man still has a job.
Giving a three year contract + NTC to a guy with 11 point so far this year demonstrates that Benning hasn't learned from his history of bad contracts.

(FLA/CHI) - Connolly, Stillman, Borgström for Carlsson, Wallmark
Florida gets valuable cap space and the Blackhawks get a low risk high reward prospect in Borgstrom. Minor but solid move for both teams.

I'd rather lose him for nothing and win 10 of the next 20 than go 0-15-5 and shatter what little confidence they have in order to fetch a bot 6 center and a middling prospect. with the new coaching its incredibly unlikely you'd got 0-15-5. Not like Ullmark is the savior of the franchise.

Your young players were being butchered by bad coaching. Is it worth risking losing Ullmark for nothing?

It isn't really Buffalo's decision. Ullmark is a UFA.
Hypothetically, lets say for some insane reason Ullmark wants to resign with Buffalo. Why not move Ullmark for assets and then just resign him when he hits UFA?

Best Deadline Approach
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>So the Leafs lose Hutchinson and then wait five games for Ullmark to be NHL ready. Sure, Leafs don't have any NHL goalie besides Campbell for five games And Hutchinson has been fine this season. And to lose Kerfoot, waiting for Granlund to arrive. Not sure how it makes the Leafs better this season and giving away futures too.</div></div>
So we should keep paying Kerfoot 3.5 million to do what exactly? And go into the playoffs with Campbell and Freddy? Campbell has been great, but he's far from being a proven goalie, and we both know how it'll end if Freddy is our starter.
Granlund should find his game with the Leafs, and Ullmark solidifies our goaltending.

NHL going to ensure this never happens again, by reminding refs to make sure their mics are off.

Columbus never fleeced them (like everyone was saying they did) but at the time this trade looked like a win for CBJ. Nobody expected Josh Anderson to come off his injury and blow up like this. Personally I think Anderson will be a consistent 40-50 point guy for the Habs, but the pace he is scoring at right now won't last, same with Toffoli.
Big sell high option if you have him in fantasy.

34.5m in long contracts in aging declining players.</div></div>
I mean, the Leafs are paying big money for players performing at an elite level (and 3 out of the 4 are in their early 20's). So one can defend the Leafs payment of the big four, but yeah, the Sharks big contracts are all on aging players who have declined rapidly. Not a good look.

(CBJ/WPG) - Dubois and 3rd for Laine, Roslovic
Why is everyone so convinced that Columbus wins this? Winnipeg walks out of this deal with a deeper offense and a 1-2 punch of Scheifele and Dubois. Meanwhile, Columbus adds a great goal scorer but has a center depth of Max Domi (fringe 2C at best) and a bunch of plugs.
Laine will be great for Columbus, but Winnipeg comes out of this trade as the more improved team.

I mean, this trade helped St. Louis win a cup while Philly has managed to lose to a wildcard team in the first round lol
Regardless, hindsight is always 20/20 and at the time the trade looked much better for STL. Still a good trade for STL, bu Farabee and Frost are nice pieces for Philly.

what are your Canadian division power rankings
1. TOR - Very deep offense and defense with star talent. Solid goaltending.
2. CGY - Really improved this off-season. Solid team all around.
3. VAN - Solid offense and defense, but the goal-tending is a major question mark.
4. MTL - I think they are getting way over-hyped, but they did improve and should be decent.
5. WIN - Good offense and a good goalie, but they have weak defense and lack depth.
6. EDM - Lots of people might attack me for this, but aside from a handful of players this team isn't great at all.
7. OTT- Still rebuilding.

Teams like LA, Detroit, and NJ are in an easy position to fleece the Isles right now. Rebuilding teams should be able to exploit teams suffering from the flat cap.

Salary is good but this sends him straight to UFA. Also, still going to be expensive for Lou to clear cap for Barzal.
