Wrong. PK units, while there is a "top unit" are generally more interchangeable than top PP to second PP. For instance since (I assume) you're a caps fan.

I'd recommend you poke through others yourself, and look for other samples from other teams as well.

Where are you getting "he's a good PK'er" from? He's god awful.

Simmonds to WSH
No interest in Simmonds here. Wouldn't get any time on the PP and can't PK. Would basically just be used for 11 minutes of 5v5 a game in WSH. Not a good fit here.

Simmonds and Gudas For The Win Plus Boyle
Simmonds is a terrible fit in WSH. Would never get PP time, doesn't PK. So you'd solely have him for 5v5 where he's, at this point in his career, average. Giving up two 1sts, Andre, Geisser and Bowey? You're shipping out value that would be more than enough to get a Matt Duchene. This is awful.

Barber will be a good fit replacing Conno as the third line RW next year. Don't see the Caps moving him for scraps unnecessarily.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>That's a relief. Now subtract Jay Beagle's salary, and adjust for inflation, to get Vrana's actual value.... unless Vrana becomes a top ten faceoff guy who chips in on both special teams and has 200 career points, in what's left of this season. I'm not putting anything past him, of course. :)
Can Burakovsky for Goldobin wait until after the playoffs?
I like signing MJ back at 2.5. That's reasonable.</div></div>
What does Jay Beagle have to do with anything? Vrána is comperable to Elias Lindholm circa last summer, hence the long term extension for the young RFA.

Carlson Sign & Trade + (LAK, NYI, OTT, EDM)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>I'm aware they can't sign for 8 years otherwise. What I said was UFA's 'DON'T' Sign somewhere so they can be traded. And why would a team give up assets for one more year of an old John Carlson? It does not happen. part of being a cup contender is having to accept that good players sometimes leave.</div></div>
Jesus. This is going to be difficult to explain but i'll try to simplify it for you.
John Carlson signs with Washington so that he receives a contract with a length of 8 years. 8x8.25 = $66mm. EDM, to give John that amount of money on the market would have to give him a 7x$9.4mm contract to also equal $66mm. That extra year provides EDM wtih an extra $1.2mm in cap space for 7 years.
I understand winning a Stanley means we have good players. In all honesty, I would love for John to stay in Washington. However, if he is going to leave, making an attempt to monetize his departure is how you maintain long term chances at winning multiple Cups.
Got it?

I would certainly love to keep him. I just don't see Maclellan giving him more than $7.5mm per year.

Agreed wholeheartedly. We won the cup despite Trotz, not because of him. How quickly people forget his decision to keep DSP on the top line while Tom was suspended until the 3rd period where Vrana bailed him out.

UFA's can sign and subsequently be traded to ensure they get an 8 year deal though. They are unable to get 8 year deals from any team other than their own. Do your research before throwing shade.

Trochek would cost a LOT more. Burakovsky is a start, but a deal would ultimately hinge on if FLA wants to move on from Luongo and get younger in goal.

That NYI trade is brutal. Burky and Grub are each worth a first individually.
I'd rather pay Kempny $2mm less than Cole and get better production
Could let Beags walk, sign Boyd and save $1mm there.

Karlsson And A Ton Of Salary
Honestly I think that deal gets done without Bowey or Conno and one of the 2nd's. I agree Erik Karlsson is worth a lot (and is a lot better than our own Carlson) but let's not discount how terrible 4 years of $7.25 Bobby Ryan is. That should really drive the price down.

Well done! All reasonable. Though in this scenario we're losing some quality young guys for nothing (Riley Barber & Travis Boyd).
I'd also let Beagle walk & only give DSP a year or two.

Caps fantasy
I like it. Though, our offense would really be lacking with this team iteration. I'd like to see a deal between TOR and us with Niskanen for Nylander as the bones of the deal added to this! I think you could take Bowey out of the Ottowa deal and make him the 3rd pairing RHD.
I'd also rather not throw 3 x 1.5 at Beagle and $2.5mm seems a little rich for Kempny. I think we can retain him around $1.8.

Caps say no pretty easily there. Assuming the SJS 1st is for Grubauer (fair value) the other 3 pieces do not add up to Burakovsky. Caps would rather futures than those pieces.
