In Sarge of Special Teams // Bolstering this D

Initial Creation Date: Dec. 17, 2015

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
None of my jokes work any more!

(Except that bad pun. Didja get it?)

Super Duper Sad.

Fire Tocchet!

This team still reeks. Three cheers for the worst injury luck you've ever seen in professional sports! Let's just make-believe that everyone is A-O-K, hunky dory [sic?], and so on. Because otherwise I might need to admit myself into a psych ward.

1. I'm not sure of this Nashville deal. Wondering what others feel about this trade? Pen's could throw a bit more in, even, e.g., Warsovsky (more 1C trade bait for NSH, basically). Dunno, dunno.

2. I keep wanting to add Phaneuf to this team. Toronto has a 1st rounder this year that is basically contingent on Pittsburgh pulling up its pants and marching into the playoffs, they don't want Phaneuf around any more, PIT has some stuff it could toss their way to make that work.

But, if this NSH deal isn't unreasonable, I don't know where Phaneuf goes?

3. PA acquired to fill out RW. Decent depth option, reasonable precaution price. Again, insurance for TOR 1st rounder from PIT.

How's the Sullivan era working.? Despite the fact the it appears that the Pens are doing their best to keep their first rounder, Leafs fans don't mind. The Kessell deal was a salary dump...especially in future years. Maybe the Pens make the playoffs in 2017 and Leafs get the first rounder. The Leafs would be pleased to dump Phanuef's contract on anyone, so if JR is willingly...bring it on. Pondering the Pens situation from distance, I think they are in long term trouble. In the salary cap era, players living up their value is very important. Look at the Pens roster....Malkin, the 3rd highest paid player in the league, Sid is he on a serious decline?, the often injured Letang and the league wide perception that Kessell not good value. These guys are virtually untradeable without getting bad money or term back from other teams. Plus in appears that Pens do not have young core of players on Entry Level Contract in the NHL or minors that are ready to step into the NHL and be effective at a low price.
All the nibbling around the edges trying to find players likely won't help. Little money to spend on UFAs. Somehow the Pens have to develop young players....and that may take years.

In regards to your comment. If you admit yourself to a psych ward...at least you know you're not "crazy". Depressed, filled with anxiety, without hope or as we call it north of the border.....a Leaf fan.
