I'm gonna go with no, he gets this based because they don't have much else in their system other than Petruzzelli but he won't be around for a few years. It's one of those you have to pay him because who else is there? Kind of like the Matt Stafford contract. He's shown flashes of being elite which helps his cause also.

Here's a suggestion. Instead of resigning Mrazek, just let him walk. Then spend 6m (or at least some of it) on a real NHL goalie either as UFA or some teams who need cap space might gladly give you one for cheap. Teams aren't or shouldn't be married to players who are not worth their value. Teams have no obligation to sign their RFA or UFAs. Spending money wisely is the one way to success in a cap era. Now if Mrazek is worth of a new deal or even a big deal fine. I'm just saying there are other options.

Mrazek is not worth the cash at the moment... Coreau is NHL ready at least as a backup. Mrazek had no issues prior to last year he has always been a winner. He should bounce back as long as he stops going down so early... a new feature to his style last year I can only assume should be attributed to 'goalie coaching'. Howard needs to go, old and overrated will get your reasonable enough looking numbers but kills you in S/O and close games
