No way Detroit easily should get a mid 1st round pick for Nyquist from a contending team, A 2nd and 3rd isn't happening at the very least 2 2nd rounders more then likely it's at least a 2nd and good prospect.

Overpayment for Duchene

Yes it is...but the asking price is “a first-rounder, quality young defenseman, proven NHLer and top prospect”. This will probably go down when the season begins.

Well if DET wants to start the season at all they have to shed some salary...no team will hand them a 1st as long as theyhave that much cap pressure.

Technically no they don't, If Andreas Athanasiou bolts to the KHL Detroit is cap compliant by putting Franzen on LTIR If we resign AA then yeah we would need to shed a contract or two Ryan Sproul being one of them.

If that's the price, it's a foolish move to make. Smith, Emelin and a 1st I can get behind. Might even throw in Dougherty, Carrier, or a mid round pick, but not Kamenev or Fabbro. Sakic has lost leverage constantly dangling the bait and not taking reasonable offers. He's the one that allowed it to get this bad in the first place.

For non hockey super-fans here's the Duchene trade simplified:

To the Avs - 2018 1st, 2016 1st, 2014 2nd, and Craig Smith.

To the Preds: Matt Duchene, and 2019 3rd
