Offseason 2016

Created by: PavelBuchnevich
Team: 2016-17 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 20, 2015
Published: Nov. 20, 2015
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Rangers don't win the Stanley Cup in 2016, I could see them shaking up the roster. Trading Nash for Shattenkirk, Staal for Atkinson and some signings. Probably not realistic but it's fun to speculate

I would say the Nash for Shattenkirk would be fair....until this year. Has Nash and his goals, "lost it". Staal is too expensive for Columbus.

Regarding Nash. The old hockey saying, especially years ago when players didn't make a great amount of money. "First you lose your hands, then you lose your wife."

I think you are right... if they don't win the cup then Nash will not be on this roster in 2016. And It is probably also true for the Blues team so they will also be looking for a shakeup.
Shattenkirk grew up a Ranger fan and is likely a FA target of the Rangers in 2017 so no harm in trading for him a year early to shake things up.

I think either Staal or Girardi has to move this offseason to re-sign Yandle... however, I am not convinced Rangers brass feels the same way. A perfect example was last night's game against Tampa. Yandle was all over the ice and was a threat all game long. He had 1 turnover that lead to a goal against (which was a pass players make all the time and was lucky to be picked off). Yandle finished the game with the least amount of ice time for all Rangers D in a game where he should have been deployed as a weapon against a skilled Lightning team. On the flip side... Girardi finished 2nd in ice time behind McDonagh.

Whether we like it or not... the team values Staal and Girardi over Yandle. So while I truly DO think there is a trade to be made to wipe us clean of Girardi... I DO NOT believe the Rangers have any intention of seeking that trade out.

I don't disagree, I think that Yandle probably walks. Just a tough pill to swallow.
