Seeing as an offer sheet would be a 2nd rounder, this trade is roughly equivalent in value minus the politics. Gagné is a former 2nd rounder who had initial struggles adjusting to the AHL but still has potential. The 4th adds additional value. If they declined it, anybody could throw a 2nd in compensation at them and it's a done deal. This way they get two prospects eventually back instead. 4th maybe upgraded to a 3rd if it's a sticking point.
