Canes pass on cirelli’s bad contract

its really not that bad for a perennial selke candidate, tbh I would rather keep cirelli but we really need a 1-T guy on the PP to replace stammer

I agree but if the powerplay doesnt work as well as it did last season were cooked. We cant waste kuch like that, if they sign sprong it might be okay but if not they have to completely rework the #1 PP in the league.

that would be terrible for the canes, there already in a cap crunch and cirelli is at best a 2c making 6m+ on a cap struck team for a LONGGGGG time with with a nmc/mncm after this year. hes a great 3c and an ok 2c whos great in his own zone but not many teams are going to think about touching that deal for at least 2-3 years if he keeps up 40+ points. (could be wrong but i feel like i remember him being hurt a good bit which when i look at games played over the last few years it matches up 80+ only once and 75+ only 3 times of his career)

Most 2 C's in this league are going to be making 6mil or more. Cirelli was hurt at the start of the season 2 years ago but other than that no major injuries (I count 79 and 76 games as full seasons and 19-20, and 20-21 were shortened seasons). Tbh the more I think about it I dont know if it would be the right decision, might just sign sprong or something.

most cup contending teams wont have cirelli in there top6. he was on ur 3rd line when u guys were in the finals as soon as he has been paid to play top 6 u guys havent gotten out of the first round. thats not a coincidence

His average time on ice in 19-20 was 18:28, in 20-21 it was 17:45 and in 21-22 it was 18:19 minutes per night. Those are 2nd line minutes. Gourde was the 3C for those cups.

Assuming KK is able to bounce back to level he showed in 2022-23, I would keep KK over acquiring Cirelli. Offensively, Cirelli is only slightly better, defensively it’s a bit of a wash, but KK is about 1.5mil cheaper, for very similar production. And that is also without the help of players like Stamkos boosting his offense.

cirelli only played with stamkos 5v5 and Stammer got half his points on the PP. Defensively its definitely not a wash, one of them is a perennial selke candidate that has to cover the other teams top line every night and the other is a 3rd liner with buyout talks.

cirelli was a 3c for those cups and playing 1 extra min per night doesnt make him jump an entire line. hes not a 2c and on most contending teams theres at least 2c u would play over him and 1c on the PK u would play over him. hes a great in his own end but that doesnt make up for his lack of offensive production for a 6m+ c

KK isnt that far off defensively and while cirelli is the better player if KK bounces back hes well over 1m cheaper for nearly the same player. neither of those contracts are many that teams let alone contending/playoff teams will be interested in getting.

1 minute more? Gourde averaged in 19-20 14:04, in 20-21 the 2nd and 3rd lines were played about the same so he did play 17:04, and in 21-22 when gourde was traded Paul was 3C with 14:06 so Cirelli was a clear 2C for 2/3 of those cup finals runs. After thinking more about it Tampa cant really afford to trade cirelli so I probably wouldnt do the trade maybe just sign sprong or figure something else out
