Created by: Theflash9193
Team: 2017-18 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2017
Published: Aug. 8, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade away most of our players with value at the deadline as this draft will be absolutely bonkers with talent. Lets pretend these are the standings...

1) Dallas
2) penguins
3)CBJ
4)NSH
5) Stl
6)Wsh
7)Min
8)Tbl
9)Ana
10)Edm
11)Mon
12)Chi

23)ARI
24)FLO
25)WIN
26) LAK
27) Buf
28) NJD
29) Det

Then at the deadline canucks ship off their vets as they know this year's draft can take them out of the basement in a year or two.

AFTER DEADLINE-

Canucks recall virtanen and Goldobin

They continue to let Juolevi develope in Finland playing under salo.

AT THE DRAFT:

Canucks draft ...

1st - Rasmus Dahlin (elite LHD)
10th- Ryan Merkley (top 2-4 RHD)
23rd- Oliver Wahlstrom (top 6 centre/RW)
25th- Benoit-Olivier Groulx (top 6 Centre/LW)

This fills all voids for the canucks prospect pool.

Canucks prospect pool now are:

LW : Dahlen, gadjovich, Lind
C: Pettersson, Wahlstrom, Groulx, Molino
RW: Boeser, virtanen, Goldobin, Rodin
LHD: Dahlin, juolevi, Brisbois
RHD: Merkley, Subban
Goalie: Demko, Dipietro

And that's not including 2018 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th and 7th round

Give the team another year, maybe sign some more free agents during free agency and repeat the process next year till we are ready to contend which will be 2019-20.

Trades
1.
VAN
  1. 2018 1st round pick (MTL)
MTL
  1. Gagner, Sam
Additional Details:
Gagner goes to Montreal as they still need a centre for their playoff push. Gagner proves that last year wasn't a knock off and that he's also producing at a good rate again.
2.
VAN
  1. 2018 1st round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. Eriksson, Loui
Additional Details:
Eriksson goes to the sharks as they are looking to push for playoffs and are looking for someone to play on their PK and add scoring to their top 6
3.
VAN
  1. 2018 1st round pick (FLA)
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (ARI)
  3. 2019 5th round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Sedin, Henrik
  2. Sedin, Daniel
Additional Details:
Retain 50% on Daniel sedin

Sedins still produce like 2nd liners. They coudve had more points last year if they didn't play with AHLers. I think Sedins slot in on the 2nd or third like with bjugstad. Sedins also join Luongo again!!! They will try to help Florida push for playoffs which I think they can cuz Florida offense will be stacked now.
4.
VAN
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (VGK)
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (NYI)
VGK
  1. Edler, Alexander
Additional Details:
LVK are really weak on the left defensive side so Edler is a smart acquisition for them

There's no way San Jose takes that horrendous contract of Eriksson. Tanev would most likely be shipped out as well

I don't know about that as Eriksson could still produce and is very good PKer. I think he'd fit nicely with

Eriksson - thornton- Pavelski

Boedker - couture - Hansen

Eriksson is still top 6, from an outsider u might be hesitant on the value because of his stats. But he was played with Brandon Sutter for most of last year and Sutter is terrible. Eriksson can Definetly produce with Thornton and pavelski, and his pk abilities will help their team too.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't want to trade Tanev this season and here's why...

1) he's the best canucks defenceman and without him their D core would fall apart

2) I was planning on letting him and Sutter go the year after at the deadline for more picks/prospects.

Interesting idea... Here is what I would do instead though:

1. Move vets the twins and Edler during the off-season for picks
2. Fill open spots with the current remaining UFA's (ex. Jagr, Doan, Iginla)
3. Trade Eriksson, Sutter, Gudbranson, Tanev, MDZ, Gagner, other UFA's at the TDL for picks (trade some other guys as-well based on the market like Dorsett if at all possible, Chaput, Megna, Biega etc)
4. Let the youngsters play for the remainder of the season
5. Pay the scouts and draft well

I agree with you. My whole point was to pick up free agents and then trade them at the deadline to get prospects and picks. I think it'll help a lot! And then repeat the following year until we have a team of stacked young players.

I do agree that the Sedins deal and Edler deal can be done in the off-season

Same, originally I had Adam Boqvist but I put merkley down just in case size drops him down the rankings.

Merkley is gonna be top 5 imo. He led his horrible OHL team IN SCORING AT 16 YEARS OLD

The idea of stockpiling those first round picks are great, who wouldn't want that? Although I think Canucks don't need dahlin as much as they do svechnikov. Besides Jordan Subban can emerge offensively or maybe even Hutton (though hutton's absolutely horrendous defensively). Better yet they could trade for one that's already somewhat established or sign a UFA like the underrated Cody Franson who's still hanging around as an FA.
