Lets start with Matheson is both better and more valuable than necas, and some how you added retention AND THE 5TH OVERALL PICK ?!?!?!

Okay. 5th overall is way too much, but saying Matheson is more valuable than Necas is absolutely laughable

Necas wants to get paid
Necas had 9 points less than Matheson

He was 3rd in TOI because Montreal had nobody else on their blue line. He’d be a #4 defenseman at best in Carolina.

Rod put Necas on lines with some of the worst offensive forwards on the team all year, including in the playoffs, where he still put up 9 points in 11 games.

I should add that Matheson is 30 years old and a UFA in 2 years. Necas still has team control. Canes would take a pick and prospect over Matheson and spend on forwards in free agency. Just not a long term fit with Slavin and Nikishin on the left side

Both trades are coming from a Carolina homer, overvaluable anything related to their team. Matheson AND the 5th OA... Imagine that.
And that KK trade... actually WANTING some positive assets in the cap dump. That tells you everything you need to know in terms of evaluating their own players.
