McGroarty

Created by: Bruin04
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 27, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lysell's value is quite low right now, but he still represents the best prospect in terms of talent the B's have. Moving him, along with this years 1st at the draft (potentially need another mid-round pick, ie. 25' 3rd) for McGroarty gives both players a fresh opportunity to make an impact in the NHL. Best case scenario for the B's is it gives them a legitimate top 6 centre to build around and allows them to move on from one of Coyle or Zacha next year.

I have McGroarty starting in the AHL.

I think I’d rather have Lysell, the 25th pick, and the third round pick with the current state of our farm system. I love college play, but the NCAA is not the AHL.

I think the premium is more based on recency bias than actual skill set and part of that could be driven by playing inferior teams on a consistent basis in college.

From hearing what's been said about him in Providence by the coach, as well as beat writers (Divver and Marinofsky discussed his lack of value and possible attitude issues recently), I get the sense his time in Boston might be close to done. I'd rather take the chance at developing someone like McGroarty than hold onto Lysell and a late 1st.

That’s fair. Mark Divver is the godfather of Providence Hockey coverage, but he also is frustrated by a type of player and is frankly negative on top prospects in general if they don’t have the “high compete” gene,

Lysell has the talent to be a premium distributor who utilizes his speed to be a top line player, but there are questions of whether he has the makeup. That’s the reason he dropped in the first place.

McGoarty sounds like he wants an NHL roster spot and I question whether he’s good enough to secure one on a competitive playoff NHL team right now. Love him as a prospect, but self acceptance of situation might be a problem with both these prospects.

Wanting off Winnipeg because they won’t guarantee a slot seems like an entitlement issue and unlike Gauthier, he doesn’t project as a franchise player

well I really hate to break it to you, then you won't be getting McGroarty, because he doesn't want to be "developed" he wants instant playing time at the NHL level.
He's not going to the AHL, which is why he wants out of WPG to begin with.

If you were unwilling to give Lysell his chance at the NHL level why would they give McGroarty?
They wouldn't. Which is why BOS isn't a fit.

There are only a hand full of teams that work.
The whole WC is most likely out.

The teams in the east willing to play out immediately.
OTT, CBJ, MTL, DET, PHL, NJ.

The teams with no real prospect pool so can get away with playing him immediately.
PIT, WSH

The teams on the top are mostly rebuilding, they are not going to trade young talent or high draft picks.
For example, CBJ is not giving up the 4OA and NJ is not giving up 10OA.....etc...

The teams on the bottom have such poor prospect pools that they can get away with starting him immediately as they only have 1 or 2 guys to upset in doing so, and they should probably just play them anyway.

The reason he isn’t going to join us is because we want him in the AHL, he requests a trade from you guys too
