Too many d-men

Created by: Emil_Ismo

Description
Trade with Devils goes down on draft day if any of the top-6 d-men are still on the board. Otherwise, no dice. They move down four spots where they can still target a good forward prospect and two seconds to improve the team with. Sharks get a chance to draft one of the good d-prospects. A win-win in my book.

The UFA's are overpaid, but thats probably what the Sharks will have to do.

I get the draft price makes sense in that calculation, but the drop in talent from guys 10 to 14 could be big. I don't love anyone after my 11.

Eh, it's a personal opinion of course but I feel like the major cut-off is around 8, and then another one after 15. Assuming the top 6 d-men are all picked before 14, one of Catton, Helenius, Eiserman, Sennecke or MBN will be available. All of which I would argue would be more valuable to the Devils than someone like Yakemchuck considering the talent New Jersey has on the blue line.

I'd almost 100% do that trade in an instant as a Devils fan, PROVIDED, they worked out a separate deal with the Jets to trade the 14OA (Pengiuns) for Rutger McGroaty. Basically counts as a reset for the Jets- who drafted Rutger 14OA two years ago.

Only other stipulation would be if a guy like Buium or Parekh somehow fell to 10OA. Then I wouldn't make the trade.

I'd also prefer trading for the 33OA pick to almost guarantee a shot at Dean Letourneau, who I think will be gone by 42OA. So, make it the 33OA instead of the 42OA and then drop the 53OA to the 75OA pick from the Lightning.

Sure I'd take that. Would you replace 53rd overall with 3rd+Walman?

So #14, #42, #83 + Walman? Hmm, maybe but I like Walman and really feel like he can contribute to our top 4 and the locker room - but I wouldn't say no outright. If we replace the #42 with #53 then I'd be more convinced.

I really struggle with how to value walman in another trade in terms of him just being a cap dump vs the fact that I think he's worth significantly more than that trade suggests. But then it comes down to, why would NJD not just take that cap dump themselves (I wish they would have)

The Walman trade is mindboggling. Even if you don't think he'll become a efficient top-4 defenseman again he's still solid as a 5th/6th, so why Detroit had to pay a 2nd to trade him makes no sense to me. If you would have asked me to come up with a fair trade for him I would have said the sharks would have to send a 3rd at the very least. The only explanation that makes sense to me is that the Rangers - Detroit - Sharks are all in kahoots and there's a Detroit Rangers trade in the making.

If all 6D are taken, that leaves Celebrini, Demidov, and Lindstrom as 3 more, and then we get to 10. Iginla is there and I would LOVE him. If you think Iginla goes 9 to CGY, then we get a D man, That's just the math. I do think at least one more forward is taken we aren't stuck with Yakemchuck there.

I would take Catton though for sure at 10 as a forward over any of the others. I wouldn't want to risk it.
