Ullmark plus Big Utah trade

Created by: Mikeb1025
Team: 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2024
Published: Jun. 23, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Buying out Vejmelka for 825k this year and 925k next year just to have some cap flexibility if we need to call up kids and fit Perron/Duclair
Losing 1st pick Next year (20 something OA) for Ullmark assuming he signs an extension and two 2nd picks to move most of the dead weight. Not too bad. Team however looks much better More competitive and physical so top 2 lines don't get clobbered. Should be able to make playoff and make some noise there.

So what would you want? More pick? You only have a million already But you don't have many actual NHL players just kids and prospects.

Imagine trading your first round pick for a 31 year old goalie and then giving him 5 x $7M at 32 years old...

... All while having Cossa 2-3 years away from potentially taking the starting role.

2-3 years away is generous and too soon. I'm thinking more like 4-5 years out before being a Starter in NHL. In 2-3 years I think a back-up at best.
This year a cup of coffee 3-6 games. Next year 15-20 "prove you're ready for NHL" games. Following year a full time back-up. (3 years from now) Following year split duty 55/27 Ullmark, Following year 55/27 Cossa. And year 6 from now A Starter full time with Ullmark as back-up/insurance in last year of his contract. So yeah 5x7 sounds about right plus I doubt he'd sign for less term
Or is it the price you're having issue with? An elite level goalie a Vezina winner last year no less WILL cost a 1st rounder and then some. Besides, I am using next year's pick 20 something OA as I expect the team to make the playoffs.

cossa is 21, not many goalies even get a game in the NHL till 23ish. in 3 years he would be 24 which is when most goalies who end up being very good starters make the jump to be an everyday backup. if by 25 hes ur starter then thats very very good for development. look at levi. hes 22. he just played 23 games and looked terrible bc he got forced into starts. give him another year or 2 and he will be a good NHL goalie. that would put him around 24. thats one of the top3ish goalie prospects. expecting cossa to take the starter at 23 is laughable. While im not sure wings fans would like the price of ullmark hes easily the best fit if ur plan is slowly working cossa into being a starter. if u want to burn ur young kid into the ground then sure play him 30+ games this year and what him slowly struggle till he ends with a sub .900 save%. goalies like sway dont come around very often (unless ur boston it seems) u need to slowly work goalies into starting roles.

Neah...Let's put him is as a STARTER in next years. Heck he's got a whole year experience in the MINORS and ZERO NHL experience. He's gonna shut out every team and win every game anyway. He's the Supergoaile and development in not necessary for him....Wait a minute...didn't I hear something similar about Jimmy Howard a few years back? No it must have been Peter Mrazek they were talking about.
Ok then 2 years away for Cossa. sure.... In your dreams maybe. Wake up dude!

It's almost like he's going to get 2-3 more years experience over those 2-3 years. tears of joy

But sure, you go ahead and keep pretending that a top goalie prospect being a starter in his D+6/D+7 is bat**** insane, sweetheart.
