Retain Garland down to 3mil and you'd be on point for his value, to another team, as Nashville doesn't want him.

Lmao Garland at his current salary is worth at least a 2nd. At 3M Nashville would be paying a 1st+ for him. He’d be a top 5 player on Nashville easily, you have a very weird hatred for him

That is overvaluing Garland. Garland would barely crack NSH's top 6 if he can truly play LW. More realistically he is a 3rd line upgrade in NSH considering where he plays. He is a considerable upgrade, but only a 3rd line upgrade. Paying nearly 5M for a 3rd line upgrade is not something that is in NSH's best interest when they have other players or prospects who could fit into that spot for cheaper than Garland (e.g. Tomasino, Kemell, Glass).

Considering the holes NSH needs to fill this offseason spending that much on an unnecessary upgrade just doesn't make sense unless the cost of acquisition is really cheap.

You think Woo and a 6th gets Necas?

I believe @Bedsy_Burner is saying Boeser should have more value than Necas, so CAR should be adding pieces. Not that Woo and a 4th would be sufficient for Necas.

Garland is better than every forward on Nashville besides Forsberg, ROR, and Nyquist. You could even argue him over Nyquist, as Garland may have been able to produce just as well offensively (or at least 60+ points) if he had the ice time and linemates Nyquist had, while Garland is also significantly better defensively

Garland has also spent the last 3 years playing with either Elias Pettersson or JT Miller as his center. You cannot say that he would have an increase in linemate quality going from VAN to NSH. Would Forsberg be the best wing he has played with? Yes, but that could be said of the majority of the league. The center quality and general finishing ability in NSH is a significant decrease from what he would have in VAN.

If I'm going to spend 5M on a winger I'll spend a touch more and go sign Teravanien or Stephenson. Both of them are projected to get between 5M-5.5M and have pretty routinely put up 10-20 more points a year than Garland.

If you really believe that Garland is worth that much, then shop him somewhere else. I'd pay for Garland, but I'm not giving you a 2nd round pick for a guy who is, at best, an overpaid middle six upgrade who is good for around 40-45 points a year.

Garland spent a majority of this season with Blueger as his center. Followed by Lindholm, Suter, and Pettersson at similar amounts (but nowhere close to the amount he played with Blueger)

He played a decent amount last season with Miller, but also quite a bit of time he was being centered by Aman or Sheldon Dries

If Garland was consistently on the first line with Forsberg and ROR (like Nyquist was for nearly 70% of his 5v5 minutes this season) and was consistently on PP1 then he’d produce 60+ points while also providing great-elite defensive play. He’s more than worth his contract at 5M

I think the 40 goal scoring Boeser is just as, if not more, valuable than Necas. But I guess I could be wrong.
