Calgary Hockey Now -- Four Realistic Potential Deals for Jacob Markstrom

And the kicker…

“Adjusting Expectations Around a Markstrom Deal. The term ‘too good to be true’ comes to mind when you see an NHL general manager publicly dangle a high value asset like Tom Fitzgerald is currently doing with the 10th overall selection at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Is he doing it to garner interest? To put pressure on Craig Conroy (Markstrom) or Nashville GM Barry Trotz (Saros) to find a deal for their available goaltender as their respective fanbases continue to ruminate on such a high potential asset? You would have to be in the room where it happened to truly know the motive, but there is one certainty here. Everything Tom Fitzgerald disclosed to the speculation-starved public was intentional.“

If I recuse myself as Devils fan…

Of the three, I was thinking the same. Two potential wingers and higher pick…but inches out Toronto offer.

            1. LAK
            2. TOR

            Kings don’t do this lol

Of course all of you say the Kings. It blows the other offers away by a wide margin

The Kings is the best deal for the Flames. But there are good goalies are available as UFA, does anyone want to spend 6m for Markstrom (Leafs can't) and give up assets too.

I assume retention is baked into all of those? Because no chance Toronto or LAK, or even Ottawa tbh, could add 6 mill to their goalie spending without it significantly hurting them elsewhere

Got to think the highest value regardless of what the return is would be LAK with NJ having the best prospect in any of the deals. It'll come down to what they want in return. Ready now talent or lower level + high picks.

            No retention is mentioned.

Also not mentioned was Markstrom’s NMC (which will decide how this goes more than anything. He reportedly blocked trade to LAK already and won’t waive now to OTT…so that thins the pool by 50%)

I think it narrowly beats Toronto’s

(And would be behind NJD, but I am biased).

Anyone suggesting LAK is going to spend 6 mill on a goalie and pay significant assets is crazy.

It almost 100% costs them Roy if they move and probably forces them into a bridge on Byfield, unless they want to gut the rest of the team.

LA’s offer is better even if you take out Zimmer, but I think all but the LA offer is lower than what I’d expect in a trade.

Holtz is a complete bust right now for being a top pick. You didn’t even add a 1st.

Kings offer is way in front of this one. Ziemmer should not be considered for a trade right now by the Kings. Prospects are running thin and this kid could be a good nhl player for how he plays the game. I’m phoning for him to be brown 2.0 or close to it.

Holtz is still on ELC. And still a great deal more promising than either Kaliyev or Ziemmer. His points-per-60 is not really that far off the standard for his draft cohort.

            Raymond…..2.29
            Stützle……….2.18
            Peterka………2.17
            Jarvis………….2.11
            Zary……………2.08
            Byfield………..2.07
            Lafreniere…..2.04
            Stankoven…..1.93
            Holtz…………..1.87
            Perfetti……….1.81
            Evangelista…1.77
            Rossi…………..1.73
            Neighbors…..1.44
            Lundell……….1.44
            Greig…………..1.43
            Foerster………1.28
            Holloway…….1.14
            Reichel………..1.01

But if they want quantity, I would agree with other posters that Kings offer may work best.

Roy is probably gone anyway…and they have Spence, Clarke anyway.

            Holloway…….1.14

But if they want quantity, I would agree with other posters that Kings offer may work best.

Pts/60 sure I guess but pts/gm is 0.31. 34pts in 110 games played isn’t the greatest of numbers.

Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t mind if the Kings traded Kaliyev plus a pick (not a high pick) for holtz for a change of scenery for both players. They’re producing at very similar rates. I’d give Kaliyev the edge here though as of right now. Kings just shut the bed with him.

But in this case the NJ trade isn’t really close to LAs.

Holtz was playing 9-10 minutes a night with Lindy. Didn’t play with Jack and Nico. And only got on PP2 with injuries.

He probably is a decent candidate to break out next season.

Doesn’t matter now. Kevin Bahl and a top 10 protected 2025 pick for Markstrom at at 4.125M. That’s a good piece of business for NJ though I do worry about his age and the fact that he has a bad year two years ago,

I think we stay healthy, add a little muscle up front, and a veteran dman to take Bahl’s spot…we should be in good shape to pick up where we left off two years ago.

I know that’s the hope. I can think of worse ways this could have ended up for you
