24-25 NY RANGERS V1 - GOODROW GONE

Created by: jpigeon2000
Team: 2024-25 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Despite his tremendous playoff performance, mgmt knows they need to cut bait to get some future cap flexibility. Goodrow buyout has biggest hit in 26-27 season. Should not be that big of a deal - biggest contracts (Panarin & Trouba) are off the books that year. Also expected continual cap growth (say 75% of next year's bump year over year) will help cover it. NOTE: I am open to any trade suggestions in lieu of a buyout. I'm thinking a trade is going to require at least 25% retention and a decent draft pick sweetener

Chytil is back next year - move to LW will suit him better due to the previous injuries. Would like to try him 1st on RW with Zib and Kreider but will give the first crack to Kakko. If Chytil stays healthy and plays well, do the Rangers look to deal him for a top 6 RW if/when Kakko fails again

Kakko was re-signed. I think he is going to get dealt - the signing can make it easier to facilitate a deal as the acquiring team now has the cost certainty as opposed to having to deal with RFA arbitration.

Have a 23-player roster with flexibility to accrue cap space during the year - paper transaction Othmann, Edstrom, and Rempe throughout the year (same thing every other team in the NHL has figured out - Drury musted have been absent that day)

For all signings, I used contract projection data from AFP Analytics - rounded $ values as needed

Well constructed lineup. Good explanations. Thanks for the reasonable thoughts to make the lineup.

They should definitely buy-out Goodrow. Saves them cap and gives the rest of the core a wakeup call and that no one is safe

I’d love to swap Kakko and Laffy to see if Laffy can carry Mika/Kreider and Panarin/trocheck give Kakko confidence. If not, you can go back to what works

Chytil is a center through and through. I don’t think he’ll be effective as a winger. Also I feel like Domi will get $4m+ somewhere

Kakko I can see having a chance up until the TDL to see if they move on or not. Lavi wants another chance at helping him succeed

gotta split Krieder/Mikka
Keeping them together only ensures same lack of 5x5 production. And Kakko doesn't fit with them.
Put Cuylle on Mika line (a forward who's a shooter- but willing to play the heavy grind along the boards) and on right, a playmaker. Not sure this is Domi.
Krieder shouild be on 3rd line with Chytil and Kakko.

Like that idea about switching LAF and Kakko.

I believe Chytil is a C as well - but is he a true 3rd line center. He not solid with faceoffs & his defensive play is OK. I think the Rangers are going to move him to the wing to hopefully lessen the chances he takes another big hit and get concussed again.

Maybe flip Chytil and Kreider as well. Lines would look like this:

Panarin Trocheck Kakko
Chytil Zib LAF
Kreider Domi Othmann
Cuylie Boyd Rempe

I really feel the Rangers are sticking with Chytil on the wing where he has less defensive responsibilities and hopefully lessens the chances of him taking one more big hit. I am for splitting up Kreider & Zibs. How about these combos:

Panarin Trocheck Kakko
Chytil Zib LAF
Kreider Domi Othmann
Cuylie Boyd Rempe

Well he wouldn’t need to worry about faceoff cause Lavi was putting Trocheck out there a lot to take faceoffs and get off. Also I feel like a lot of Chytil’s starts will come on the fly or neutral/Ozone. When he played wing in the playoffs, he looked lost and didn’t know how to play

I just want Lavi to experiment more. 3 coaches in a row where we’ve seen Mika/Kreider, Lindgren/Fox, KAM/Trouba, etc.

Agreed - would like to see a little more "mixing things up". As much as I love Kreider, Lav needs to experiment with Kreider & Zib separate at 5v5 - a decent run and not a couple of games and go "oh well that didn't work". You can always go back to certain things if changes do not work out.

Probably wasn't the best idea throwing Chytil on the wing in the playoffs after missing just about the entire reg season. I feel that if he gets a training camp and pre-season under his belt he will perform real well on the wing.

I wouldn't change a thing with Pan-Troch -LaF line
was a great line last year, and should be better if the other 2 lines get going.
Try:

Pan-Troch-LaF
Cuylle-Zib-Chytil
Krieder-Domi-Kakko
Othmann/Berard-Boyd-Vesey

The key is to put a playmaker alonside Zib. And Cuylle adds the "grind" that Krieder refuses to bring. Not sure Chytil is "that" guy- think he's more a shooter. So if they can get Kane on a 1 year deal- that might be a better compliment to Cuylle and Zib. Then leave Chytil at C (where he's prob most comfortable anyway) with Krieder and Kakko. Krieder will get better matchups....and along with the grinding possession Kakko brings- should be able to grind out the "muck it up" goals.

And Rempe- start in HFD, and give him big minutes. Then mid season call up.
