For the eighth overall draft pick I would trade John Gibson and retain $3 million on him, but I still think that Toronto is on his no-trade list.

Even though the pool of defense prospects will be well picked-over by #8, I can't see you guys trading away that choice after acquiring it, especially in a Marner trade. Whomever you select there will automatically be your best defense prospect in your system.

I think that they couldn't afford not to. In all likelihood there will be at least one of the top-tier LhDs (Silayev, Dickinson, Buium) and/or one of the second-tier RhDs (Parekh, Yakemchuk) available at #8 because Celebrini, Levshunov, Demidov and Lindstrom will all go in the top 5.
