Description

Trader Cliff was needed last summer.

The Leafs should have broke up the Core 4 last summer.

Back when Nylander only had a M-NTC and Marner didn't own a NMC until July 1st came.

Both those 2 players were coming off impressive season; Nylander had his first 40 goal season and had a good playoff, Marner almost had a 100 point season and had his best playoffs of his career.

Their trade stock would have been massive.

Back in Fletcher's Leaf day he had the balls to make massive risky trades:

Trade a young talented Damphousse for Anderson and Fuhr.
Trade an ex 50 goal scorer Leeman for Gilmour.
Trade his starting goalie Fuhr for Andreychuck.
Trade future HOF Anderson for Gartner.
Trade the team Captain Clark for Sundin.

Last summer's missed opportunity will haunt this team with 1'000 what if>? possibilities, as it seems now they'll lose Marner for nothing and will be stuck with an overpaid Nylander with a NMC.

the leafs get considerably worse in this scenario and still dont fix there biggest problem in goal.

I disagree, trading Nylander wouldn't have hurt too badly but letting Marner to walk away in UFA would hurt.
