I’m sure Yzerman would prefer moving Maata over Chairot anyway. Wings fans hate him, but he’s an Yzerman guy. Maata and Berggren for Trouba at 6 mil and Kakko is basically a wash money wise this year and gives NYR cap relief next year.

They want what he brings.

Correct. I’m not under any impression that he is the player he once was. But, the wings can use some edge and if he can take even a fraction of the pressure off Seider to take every tough matchup, it’s worth it. The 2nd piece to it is only having to be locked in for 2 years. Dipping in to the free agent pool and coming out with Roy on a 5 or 6 year deal carries its own risks.

Seider needs help or he's going to be retired by 30.

He can't keep being a 1 man show on D.

Trouba can take some pressure off him.

Young Edvinsson will really help Seider too.

His defensive zone start stats are nuts. Getting a competent RHD behind him should be priority 1 this offseason. Trouba at 2X6 is very appealing to me for the reasons above.
