Not gonna argue that Boeser isn't the best player in this deal, but this doesn't work at all for Ottawa. Zub is straight up the better Dman for Ottawa's need. He's a better value than Hronek at 7mil or whatever he ends up getting, and they need a defensive player like him way more than they need Hronek. Adding Greig in upgrade from Batherson to Boeser is not worth it imo.

Would it be closer if Grieg was omitted?

No. You just chose 3 of the least likely that Ottawa trades

Honestly just think it's a bad fit to begin with. Zub's their top pairing RHD and one of the best shutdown Dmen in the league. Hronek could be interesting to Ottawa if he's playing behind Zub in the lineup, but replacing zub with him makes no sense. Not gonna argue Boeser is by any means worse than Batherson, but I don't think with all the tinkering Ottawa needs to do this summer, that they'll have any appetite to move of a great young player on such a good deal. That deal gives them way too much flexibility in building a competitive roster.

on value, yeah. but Ottawa still doesn’t take it. Zub is just more necessary for the Sens than Hronek is. this just doesn’t solve any problems while filling up a lot more cap space for the Sens. but on simple trade value, it’s probably not too far off when taking Greig out
