A retained Acciari alone would cost a 3rd, maybe more, let alone adding in useless Sheary and his contract. I want nothing to do with Sheary or that trade. At least Acciari can kill penalties and hit. Most of this is brutal.

It would probably cost those picks just to dump an unretained Smith. NSH isn't going to add a talented prospect like Tomasino.

Do you honestly think an underperforming $5M 33 year old has positive value?

Could fetch a 4th at least, he had 56 pts 2 years ago. He just hates pittsburgh and couldn’t get chemistry with their core.

The Jets aren't giving Perfetti away for nothing.

Even if that's true, why is NSH giving Tomasino away for the equivalent of a 3rd, 4th and a 5th? They could do so much better than that, if they decide to move on from him.

Doubtful WPG is looking to take a step back from Perfetti.

I have no comment on the above trades, but if you honestly think Smith has negative value then you need to step away from this website for a while. The man is a proven playoff performer who put up 40 points in 76 games while playing primarily third line minutes on a team that had trouble scoring. He has positive value, retained or not.

His most common linemate this season was Malkin. He was getting PP time. Usage doesn't seem to have been the issue.

All Vegas could get for him when he was coming off a productive season was a 3rd. Now that he's older and his goal scoring fell off by half, I'd be shocked if PIT could get anything for him. Maybe another overpaid vet who also needs a change of scenery? Cap space is too tight league-wide, for anyone to gamble $5M worth of cap space on him right now. PIT's best bet is probably to wait until the deadline, and see if there's a taker then.

If I'm wrong, and the Pens can move him while eeking out some value - good for them! The imbalance in the trade is what's really egregious here. Whether Smith has some, no, or negative value is a comparatively much more minor issue.
