A Trade with Calgary ***With Description***

Created by: Arom5477
Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2017
Published: Jul. 28, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
CGY Trade:

-Calgary gets a game changing RW, who is a fan favorite and will cause havoc in front of the goaltender, as well as play on the top line, pushing Brouwer to the 4th line where he belongs. They also get a 1st round defenseman who needs a change of scenery. And they get a great goalie prospect who can challenge Mike Smith, and hopefully take over full time as starting goalie (he definitely has that potential) and finally stop the constant goalie changes in CGY.

-PIT gets a great piece as 3C pivot, a good penalty killer and power play center. He is still young and could potentially be signed long term after this season. And a center prospect (who I admittedly don't know much about, but I was more or less looking for a decent center prospect. If he's a vital piece, I don't mind making a switch.)

-All in all, I believe this trade is fair for both teams. As it gives both teams a quality player who only have one year left on their contracts. So, if either of this players don't work out for either of these teams, they can let them go. And, on the prospect side, I believe CGY will like Jarry going their way.

Butcher Signing:

-Replaces Pouliot on the prospect chart. Could easily replace Cole/Maatta if he goes elsewhere. Why would you not sign to a team that has the chance to threepeat? Who is low on good D prospects; and has the possibility of trading away Maatta at some point and losing Cole, which he could fill. I could also see him as the first call up if our D-corps goes on the fritz again, like last year.

Why?? Hornqvist is replaceable with Sprong and ZAR (who ironically enough has been compared to Hornqvist) coming up. Jarry will only ever be a backup goaltender, due to Murray. And Pouliot is a bust for the Penguins, who needs a change of scenery. In return, the Penguins get a 2C as their 3C.

I know Hornqvist is a fan favorite, he's one of mine, but you have to look realistically and without bias.

Calgary doesn't need goalie prospects. The only goalie that would be worth while would be a upgrade on Smith as a starter but Smith should be an upgrade on the last few years.
Backland is also finally becoming the player he was drafted to be 10 years ago, and he should be in the teams long term plans. He had a Selke caliber season last year and playing with Frolik again makes me believe he could do it again.
Jankowski was drafted as a 5 year project and that would mean this year is when he was expected to make his move and all signs point to him being in the lineup this season.

So in all, as a flames fan i am not moving those two players.

Why?? Smith is really old, and Lack is only meant to be a backup. Wouldn't you want a grade A goalie prospect in the pipeline waiting to take over the reigns?

We have 3 A Grade goalie prospects actually: Tyler Parsons (Memorial Cup champion, World Juniors champion for the US), Jon Gillies (NCAA title and MVP for Frozen 4), David Rittich (.924 save% in his first AHL year from coming over from Europe), then we still have Mason MacDonald, Schneider etc in the pipeline for goalies, we're very well set there. The exact reason we grabbed Smith was because we wanted a short term goalie before we call those guys up.
(and I'm in no way criticizing since it's tough to know other teams prospects - I have no clue who T. Jarry is either so I literally can't judge lol) -
we're deep on Goalie, center, leftwing and defence. Weak on RW and lack draft picks - so Hornqvist is attractive (if he'll waive to come to Calgary even and pay those awesome Canadian taxes, which is why Canadian clubs tend to be on that no trade list) but we'd be the ones trying to offer defence/goalie depth I think :P
