Devils decline that trade. Not gonna argue about the value being fair or not, but it’s not possible to fit Pettersson’s extension and Jarry in the devils cap structure with upcoming extensions for Dawson Mercer, Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec. Pittsburgh would have to take a cap dump from New Jersey, which would defeat the purpose of the trade.

I'm sure a lot of these could be accepted, but Utah definitely passes.

I don’t think they want to trade Jonas and Palat has trade protection in his contract. There are more efficient ways to get a defenseman than this. There are additional costs associated with unloading Palat’s salary as well if the devils could do it. There’s more to that trade than meets the eye.
