Neither of these trades make sense. Stralman isn't anywhere NEAR worth that much, and 15.5 million dollar signing bonus? Do you mean a multi year deal?

We would only need one defender on the right side since I'm sure Babcock wants the youth to grow. We have Carrick and Zaitsev, they want one more top 4 defender on more than likely a short term deal to make room for any prospects coming up.

Don't know why folks think the Leafs defence is that bad. And certainly those trades don't help the Leaf team now or in the future. Stralman is "nice" two year rental, but the Leafs aren't trading maybe their top LWer, their top winger prospect and another top winger prospect and more.
And McCabe is that much better than second year player Carrick? Certainly cap dump Bogosian isn't wanted by the Leafs. And to sign Connor Brown for 800,000, you're off by about 2.2m. Jeez.

You cant buyout Nathan Horton and Joffrey Lupul. As for the rest of the buyouts they make zero sense. Also leafs wouldn't be able to extend Stralman until the final year of his contract. Also that a huge over payment for Stralman.
