My guess is Carolina takes this in a heartbeat. They'd probably have to offer a pick as well to make it more even.

^ THIS, if the Canes are smart.

Let's be real, does Duchene put the Canes in contention for a cup?...no? Then why??

Duchene is the perfect target for a team looking to move some picks/youth for their cup run, if he moves, he moves to a team that is a player or two away.

Then add conditional, high draft picks. As is, Ron Francis wants to solve his scoring problems with Marcus Kruger, lol.

fair trade. two years of duschene for potential of hanifan. dushene hasn't been good lately but he could flourish in Carolina and if he plays well could really boost the canes playoff hopes. with the cloud over duchene, you think he should be traded by September

Washington is about Phil Kessel away from beating the Penguins each of the last two years. Duchene fits the bill as a third line superstar. Brooks Orpik has a similar cap hit and is a solid defensive defenseman who has won three of the last four President's trophies, with two different teams. On a second pair, he gets Colorado to the playoffs. But a thirty goal scorer is worth more than someone who can neutralize one, so the Caps probably throw in a couple prospects and picks.

Wanting to solve yes, trading the future away for it? Why?

Sorry, but I believe the goal for ANY organization in sports should always be ...Championship or build towards championship. Just making the playoffs as a wild card or 6th seed...what does that do for you other than get middling picks in the next draft and some extra money from playoffs tickets??

Duchene moves the canes about 5 feet up a 100 foot ladder. How about keep Hanafin, trade Faulk for some 1sts/blue chippers. BUILD! In the great words of Ricky Bobby "If you ain't first, you're last!"

How Kruger has anything to do with solving scoring problems? He cost 5th rounder for canes and he is 1 of the better 4th line centers in the league.
