NHL teams can release players on a case by case basis, there could be an interesting roster even if the NHL stars are generally withheld.

Canucks have a good shot at #1 overall? Sure Bo, go bring Canada a Gold Medal

What I heard today is that even if a team releases a player that the IIHF still has to approve them to play, and it was suggested that there is no way the IIHF is going to approve any NHL player because its in their best interest to keep a somewhat positive relationship with the NHL.
