There is definitely a market for a 50% retained Smith, someone could really use him, but I doubt NSH is that team. Fitting under the cap is not an issue for them this season. Even if it’s to a lucrative one year deal, they can simply sign a guy like Zucker and keep their 3rd round pick.

whats the point on retaining on Smith just to sign Debrusk. They are the same player.

That's way to much for Roslovic, he's not that good. If he was CBJ wouldn't have let him go.
CAR won't be playing for the cup, just give that up.

I think the hard part is finding a team he'd like to go to that has a third this year they'd be willing to give up. Nashville was a team that came to mind, but I'm sure there might be a handful of others.

Reasons why I stand by trading Smith, and signing DeBrusk:

1. Smith is 33, DeBrusk is 27 (28 in October)
2. Smith doesn't like playing here (I don't care what he says. Watch him play, it's obvious.)
3. DeBrusk has untapped potential (Hasn't played with the best centermen this year, yet has 4 goals, 6 points in 8 playoff games)
4. Smith is not effective in Pittsburgh's top-six (His best hockey was played on third line, He's too expensive for a third liner.)
5. Smith is at 50% retained has positive value, take advantage of it.
6. We can afford it, this doesn't ruin our cap space.

1. I don't care about age on an expiring contract. If anything not getting roped up in a long term deal is better for PIT. Who doesn't want to carry a contract into their rebuild.
2. Clearly you know how he feels..... Maybe he's been hurt you don't know. Either way it's a contract year and if he wants another one from anybody he has to play hard for it.
3. DeBrusk is what he is, an inconsistent player of 40-50 point value. He's also a locker room problem player. He was demanding out of BOS just last year.
4. High chance DeBrusk ends up a 3rd liner in PIT. For the same reason Smith did.
5 Smith at 0% retention has positive value, teams will take a chance on an expiring contract.
