No, Los Angeles isn't exchanging three seasons of our #2 C for one season of Marner while making a difficult cap situation $4.4 million worse. The only way to make a Marner-to-Los-Angeles trade work mathematically is to substitute DuBois for Danault and retain $2 million. You can't overcome the hard reality of numbers; the Kings need any and every trade to be cap-neutral or cap-positive (we Los Angeles fans have crunched the numbers repeatedly). And sending cap back the other way in the form of multiple high-quality players (like the Anderson-and-Kempe package I saw yesterday) doesn't work because it's moronically short-sighted for LA.

Ignoring the fact Tavares wouldn't waive for Toronto (and Matheson may not want to play in Toronto), Montreal's getting worse, putting themselves in an awful cap situation for a late 1st? With no way to get any sort of value for Tavares in a trade? That's brutal for them.

So montreal is giving you a top pair defenseman at laless than 5 million (top 10 in scoring for D) and a massive fast skating forward at less than 3 million and what they get back is a 11 million dollar usless player cap dump (known playoffs choker so ain't no team is trading for him at 5.5m at the deadline) and a lousy late 1st round pick ?!?!?! Lol
