Okay so here we go. I think a probable and manageable solutions for the leafs.
1) the core four need to turn into 2. Matthews and Willy wouldn't go anywhere, Matthews being the reason the leafs are able to get into playoffs and willy being consistant
2) I think it's stupid to let Tavares walk for nothing, and trading him at the deadline is too risky. Depending on what Colorado does in the playoffs this year, they could use JT as a pp guy and a second line C. Moving Timothy would help as well as Colorado is good at developing defensive prospects. Toronto would then get a good defensive peice in return
3) Marner has to go, now would he be willing to waive his NMC for Arizona prolly not but a package deal of Keller and Schmaltz would help with depth, while no losing to much of marner point production
4) I haven't watch much toronto games since lyub came back but he's a big defensive d guy would Toronto could get on a cheaper deal. Edmundson was also great and 'could easily be one of the two. Zadorov would be ideal but I think he'll cost the leafs too much.
5) signing ghost will help fill what would be missing on the pp. Ghost killed in it Detroit last season especially on the pp. He'll be looking to be paid but 6.25 should be enough
6) resign Bert. I know he wasn't a fan favorite and took him time to produce but in the end you'll need the help on pp and he's got that grit they need. He proved he's able to be a 30 goal scorer in det with the right linesmate
7) the leafs need to start to develop goalies. Woll should be the 1 goalie and signing Ned who provides d in Pittsburgh he can step up if needed is huge
8) Robertson could be traded and replaced with a player like Domi instead but I think it's time to give the kid a full chance.
9) calle either needs to be traded or a buyout to work

This could fix the leafs issues. It's just too much money tied into four players.
Keep in mind I'm a red wings fan at heart so this isn't bias
